    Negative Outlook

I worked at Schultz & Sage Cpa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The surrounding area is pleasant.

    Cons

This place is not computer savvy. They use columnar paper to prepare work papers and if you change a number, you have to MANUALLY re-compute the columns again - this is such a waste of time- when Excel does it instantly. You do NOT prepare individual / business tax returns. What you do is they print out a proforma of the tax return and you fill it out manual so the secretary can do the data entry and she knows nothing about taxes. The version of ProFx they use is not serviced anymore. The version they have, you have to type in the line number that you want to enter the data on then enter the number, you can not just click on the cell. The owners are so incredibly cheap. They do almost everything manually but they will not tell you that. One of the services that they provide is a checkbook reconciliation which is because their clients are too cheap to buy QuickBooks. If you are experienced, you will not learn anything new except how frustrating this place is. You will not learn financial statement preparation because they will not let you run see the total picture. This place is pathetic. They will not assist you with CPE and they dropped out of all professional associations because they cannot meet the requirements of the profession.

    Advice to Management

You are a disgrace to the profession.

    Pros

Free lunch when partners are in.

    Cons

No growth or stability. Management is very erractic & inconsistent when it comes to following proper accounting rules & procedures.

    Advice to Management

Set people up to succeed and not fail. Treat people with respect. Be consistent in how you conduct business and handle employees. Have an employee manual and follow it instead of making up the rules as you go along. Follow proper accounting rules, it will make it easier for employees to do their jobs instead of asking the same questions for each client. Finally, stop doing things manually and adopt technology and buy a paroll program.
