Pros – The pay scale was very competitive and the insurance benefits packages were also very good
There were plenty of paid time off from holidays in addition to your yearly vacation time.

Cons – The engineering department was a very hostile environment. There were many confrontations with the engineering manager. Some confrontations included slamming of tables and use of hostile language. Other employees complained about hostile language and response from this manager was “You can always find another job.”
Tight deadlines to get projects done and very slow response times from the manager to address issues. You were reprimanded if a job did not go out on time and reprimanded if you sent out a job before getting a response from him which often took an entire day. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
New ideas for process improvement are not well received from the manager especially if they go against what he had already set up.
Unfair and unequal treatment for employees. I’ve seen engineers who would literally spend hours watching movies at their desks and on various occasions see another engineer sleeping at his desk. This situations were reported and never addressed.

Advice to Senior Management – Reprimand and/or remove this engineering manager from the department.
Allow for employees to speak directly to other personnel to get jobs completed without the fear of being reprimanded for not following the many levels of management.
Treat all employees fairly and equally. There should be no special treatment for who you know.
Accept new ideas from employees and if they are not accepted explain why not.
Do things my way or the highway don't promote a positive work environment.

Pros – learned new skills, including electrical design, injection molding, sheet metal and extrusion design

Cons – constantly reprimanded by management, always on aggressive and unrealistic project timelines

Advice to Senior Management – put yourself in your department's shoes and realize you are demanding too much
