I have been working at Schwan's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Huge commission possibilities. Weekly pay. Good benefits and vacation/holiday pay. Decent upward mobility. Like owning your own business without the hassles.

    Cons

Two things, the equipment and an aging fleet of trucks. But I'm pretty positive and I know things will get better!

    Advice to Management

Please work on improving communication. A knowledgeable sales staff will greatly help reps in all aspects of the job. Get your sales people to know their numbers and where they can improve.

I have been working at Schwan's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Schwan's is a great company to work for in terms of opportunity. Its a mid-size company with a small company feel - meaning if you ask for opportunities to learn and grow, they give it to you. I've been with the company for 9 years and have been promoted 4 times and have had 2 lateral moves. Each position has been a developmental experience for me that I don't think I would have gotten anywhere else. I've even been able to change careers and it was the best decision I ever made!

    Cons

Benefits aren't the best comparable to other companies, so do some research on what the company offers and negotiate.

    I worked at Schwan's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Meet interesting people. Discounts on food.

    Cons

Pay is terrible, hours are very long. I only averaged about 9 dollars an hour. They pay $100 a day and make earning commission nearly impossible. Constant inventory issues. I worked the 3 years. In that time I took a 25% pay cut.

    Advice to Management

    Follow through on promises.

I have been working at Schwan's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to contribute are available for those wishing to excel Management is open to new ideas as the business right-sizes itself New external perspectives are breaking down the old culture of how things were done Management's laser focus of business objectives and priorities Truly an open door environment where anyone is able to speak to leadership without restriction

    Cons

Some resistance to change by long-time employees Management decisions that aren't communicated or explained Some silo's amongst the BU's, though leadership is aggressively trying to dismantle them Small town USA - about 2 hours from big city restaurants / professional sports / shopping

    Advice to Management

Keep your foot on the gas !!!

I have been working at Schwan's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Safety is a major concern, and you will always go home the same shape you came to work.

    Cons

Little to no training. Ordering devices are at least 12 years old and horribly outdated. Tech support is a joke. Pay is well BELOW the industry standard. Management will squeeze every last ounce out of you. You will rarely, if ever, be reimbursed if you have to spend your own money on the job.

    Advice to Management

Spend some money updating technology. If you want more out of your people, pay more. The on boarding process is sub standard, many new employees are left to figure it out themselves. These are all part of the reasons why turnover is so high.
