Current Employee – been working at Schwartz & Company
Pros – - Broad client base provides good experience
- On the job training
- Knowledgeable managers and partners
- Friendly and supportive staff
- Competitive Salary
- Free 15 minute back massage every saturday during tax season
Cons – - Management does not practice what they preach
- There is a sizable rift between management and staff. Staff has no opinion in anything
- Motivation is controlled by fear with a mind set of "It's my way or the highway"
- High turnover rate. 80% in two years
- Goes on a hiring binge to ramp employees up for tax season then cuts the "weak links" loose right after tax season
- Tax season starts the first week of January and everyone is expected to meet benchmark billable hours
- Expects projects to be completed timely but there are times, especially during tax season, where there are not enough working laptops for people out doing fieldwork
- Every computer has a camera. Video conference calls are strongly promoted over telephone calls
- Lousy benefits
Advice to Senior Management – - Treat your employees as assets not as expendables. Employees and their salaries are not a statistic. BIG 4 mentality does not reverberate well in a tight knit group in a small firm. A high turnover rate is not great for employee morale.
- Don't always go with the cheaper alternative because you get what you pay for
- Provide staff with proper tools/equipment will improve efficiency
- Practice what you preach
- Let each employee pick what they want to eat from the venue for lunch on saturdays
