Not a bad job to start your career

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Scotiabank

ProsA stepping stone to other jobs in the bank

ConsDifferent branches give your very different experience, if you end up in a bad branch, it would be pretty ugly.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers should be assessed more often. There's a lot of unfairness in branches.

Just Okay

Customer Support Representative (Former Employee)
Vancouver, BC (Canada)

I worked at Scotiabank full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat Products and Great Brandcare.
Senior Management in Toronto seem to care alot.

ConsCutting Budget = Less position available.
Typical office politics.
If Big Boss likes you, regardless of your performance, you'll move up before those who are more capable.
Works you like a dog and treats you like crap UNTIL you are given the survey to grade your supervisor.
Teller with 15 years of experience thinks he/she owns the bank.

Advice to Senior ManagementDig deeper into the branch and look for those who really work their asses off for the bank.

Wage slave

Account Manager, Small Business (Current Employee)
Hamilton, ON (Canada)

I have been working at Scotiabank full-time for more than a year

ProsThey will pay you what is agreed upon when you are hired. You also can basically not be fired unless you really try to get fired.

ConsThey will never, ever go above the bare minimum that they have to do for you but expect that you will go far beyond the call of duty for your bosses and clients

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees like people

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Paid to do something which is of little value to society.

Senior Manager (Current Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I have been working at Scotiabank full-time for more than a year

ProsLow stress, nine to five, compensation is better than in most places, get to work on whatever technology we want.

ConsSkillset not transferable to other jobs: one gets too tied up in the infrastructure, takes too long to setup any software tools, etc.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
