Pros
Great benefits that encourage loyalty to firm for those who prioritize work/life balance. Great place to work and good resume builder.
Cons
Salary is low amongst the big 5. Should compensate people not on tier but on performance for better retention of good workers.
Advice to Senior Management
More communication & info sharing intra-departments. Should make an effort to have townhalls or parties where all divisions compete or socialize.
Pros
very friendly, organized a lot of opps
Cons
Everyone is that works their is very mature, a lot of clients are very mature
Advice to Senior Management
you should hire younger ppl
Pros
General Scotiabank policies, such as Applause Points
Cons
Promotions were unfair (branch manager played favorites)
Had to stay late unpaid if branch was busy
Management was disrespectful
Advice to Senior Management
If you say something, stick to it
Pros
The bank offers fairly good job security, benefits, training and initial salary. The work hours are very reasonable and management is flexible in how you set your work schedule. Holidays, sick days and personal obligation days are pretty good. The bank prides itself in creating a team environment; its one team one goal philosophy. The bank is fairly reasonable in the individual targets it sets for each employee, and management works closely with you to help you reach them. There is healthy competition, but no cut throat mentality. Overall work experience is positive.
Cons
Unless you work at the branch level, there are few opportunities to get into other departments if you live outside of Toronto or Calgary. The bank really follows the "corporate ladder" model, and if you are young and have any real career aspirations in the financial industry, get some experience and get out as soon as you can. HR is slow and difficult to work with, and the banks computer systems are not very user friendly. The banks culture is also very frugal. If you have no real career objectives, want a stable long term job that has decent pay and benefits, Scotiabank is for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Good job on the macro running of the bank, however the domestic side is in need of some major improvements.
Pros
none. I would have been able to provide alot of reasons, however since being off on sickleave, they have literally ruined me. My health is worse than ever, and this is all a reflection of the treatment I have received from the management team since my leave.
Cons
scotiabank does not follow through on there commitment to customers or to there employees, from an employee of 15 yrs, i have never known a company to be so unethical, and discriminating. my advice to you, is to choose another bank because scotiabank is not at all what they claim to be.
Advice to Senior Management
It is too bad that the management team is intimadating and that there discrimination on how they treat there employees goes unnoticed. It is too bad that they do not stand true to the promise on how "everyone is to be treated as an equal"
Pros
Very people oriented and provide work life balance.
Cons
Compensation. Once you get to a particular level you pretty much top out and then there really no room for advancement unless prepared to go to Toronto.
Advice to Senior Management
Really appreciate the amount of time and effort in keeping staff happy and providing a good envirinment to work in but when it comes to compensation you have to do away with the Scotia Discount in lieu of environment. At the end of the day its the pay that pays the bills.
