Pros – The office is absolutely silent and everyone keeps their doors closed. Some partners are okay, but one in particular is a nightmare.
Cons – Very cheap-- they try to pay employees as little as possible. The business structure makes no sense. Mr. Scott keeps recruiting partners from other law firms in the hopes that they will bring more business and pays them exorbitant sums that the firm can't afford. As a result, the rest of the firm is comprised of an army of contract attorneys, who are paid terribly and expendable. However, every contract attorney is given the promise that if they work even more hours (upwards of 70 hrs a week), they can be given a permanent position. The firm has begun recruiting summer associates at ridiculously low pay, and has not hired anyone from that program. This leaves law students in a tough spot because their second summer is essentially wasted. Law students: don't make this mistake, find somewhere else to work.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire the contract attorneys that have been with you for over ten years-- it is really unacceptable to not provide health insurance for employees that have been there for so long. If you do hire them, pay them like attorneys. The quality of work and loyalty will improve. Everyone I worked with is biding their time until they canleave.
