I worked at Scottish & Newcastle

    Pros

Immediate access to senior management on a daily basis.

Excellent benefits that were a 100% paid for.

Commute time was 10 minutes which was pretty sweet.

    Cons

Salary was less than the market rate for many positions.

Company was bought by Heineken and local office was closed down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay according to market rates so you can get a better selection of employees.

Really listen to employees suggestions. They may have some good ideas you haven't thought of.

I worked at Scottish & Newcastle full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I worked at the head office in Edinburgh for less than a year. Job was easy, and people were pretty nice to work with.

    Cons

Boss was a bit of a drip, and seemed to have favorite employees. The job was easy but really quite boring, and there was quite high turnover of staff. Pay was terrible.

  3.

I worked at Scottish & Newcastle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I gained a lot of experience working in a large team, there are a lot of internal and external training courses provided.

    Cons

It seems that if you party and drink with the 'big boys' you'll go far. A couple of people got laid off when I was there or not performing, so there can be a lot of pressure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You may be missing out on some great talent that do not drink or party, look to the quiet ones also.
