Pros
People are hard working and honest
Work - life balance is emphasized
Great culture and not as stressful as other large organizations
Cons
compensation is not very competitive
Employees developed internally are not compensated as well as external hires
Benefits start immediately but it takes 5 - 10 years to acquire more than 2 weeks of vacation regardless of job grade.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to management is to continue to find ways to foster development and innovation, but while doing so respectfully compensate the employees beneath management that carry out the development and innovation.
Pros
The experience is great, pay is competitive, and if you have good co workers then it's great!
Cons
Co workers can go either way. Work can be boring, mostly paper pushing. If you have a bad boss it WILL ruin the entire experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management- a simple call to the branch to check in would be nice every once in a while. I'm rarely (haven't been at all yet!) thanked for anything I do.
Branch Managers- please realize we as interns are learning every day. Some managers are great, some are extremely impatient.
Pros
Everything was great. There is nothing I would change.
Cons
No more Financial Office Assistant position.
Advice to Senior Management
NA
Pros
Great people to work with, nice corporate culture, Even as a Manager you won't have to work more than 40 hours a week. Benefits are solid
Cons
No career path for Managers and Brokers, No direct incentive. We are asked to be proactive and build the business, but if we do this effectively the net result is more work without any additional compensation. Scottrade needs to understand that this is a big problem
Advice to Senior Management
Create 4- 8 regional centers, incent employess to open accounts and bring in assets!
Pros
Easy work, easy to do other things while working, easy to take time off, no risk in job loss or under performing
Cons
No room for advancement, college degree not needed at all, everything is controlled by corporate headquarters and there is no individual input
Pros
Tuition reimbursement, low stress job
Cons
Low pay
No employee stock option in case Scottrade goes public
When you go above and beyond, no compensation or even a pat in the back
Advice to Senior Management
You cannot be serious about your new mission statement....
Pros
close to home.
good work life balance.
Cons
micromanaging directors
directors & above with minimal competence - allowed to intimidate associates
no oversight to ensure director competence - allowed to do whatever they want and hr sticks by them even though they are in the wrong.
there is a gap between what Mr. Riney thinks is happening in his firm and what actually is happening. his 'handlers' keep him oblivious while they run the company the way they want.
sr managers and directors that cannot do the job but take the credit for associate's accomplishments.
exec directors that are too scared to do anything because they have a great gravy job.
Advice to Senior Management
Review the qualifications of the Exec Dir and Sr. Managers in BOSS.
Pros
The benefits are excellent and pay is under average.
Cons
Rapidly growing business with an IT department that cannot keep up with its growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop advancing your favorites! look for qualify associates internally and externally
Pros
Flexible hours, pay, credits for school. Scottrade University if a huge help to interns. You will get great experience for the future.
Cons
I honestly don't have any cons. The only thing that isn't fun about being an intern is getting thrown into this business you don't know much about.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing, keep up the great work. It is very easy to see why this is considered such a great place to work.
Pros
Continuous improvement is part of the organizational culture at Scottrade. They really want you to keep learning and progressing as a professional. Great place for MIS professionals get some exerience in the finance field.
Cons
I felt like I left without really understanding my purpose as an intern. I just had the feeling they hired me to study every day and learn as much as possible about the company and capital markets in general. There wasnt a set goal to be accomplished.
Advice to Senior Management
Better organize your internship program. I graduated in Finance and went in thinking that I would get an experience in the finance industry, but it ended up being an IT internship as I learned a whole lot about data bases!
