Current Employee – been working at Scottrade
Pros – A fast-growing company that is still small enough to provide many opportunities, many of which are yet to come, yet already large enough to provide room to grow laterally. The man at the top, Rodger Riney, is clearly someone who cares.
Cons – Fast growth can mean the promotion of those not yet ready or not well suited for a promotion, and limited resources mean it requires patience and an understanding of prioritizing to wait for changes and improvements.
Advice to Senior Management – Be very careful to ensure that managers are not only leaders but truly care about customers, employees and the firm.

Former Employee – worked at Scottrade
Pros – Relatively easy work, good compensation for work load, good internal communication, have internet access for slow times, they give help towards getting certifications and they provide continuing education opportunities once you have them, get to know your coworkers very well and even some people from different branches, they do their best to help you relocate if you want.
Cons – Little room for upward advancement, days can get long, some websites are blocked, don't really feel like the work you do gets you anywhere.
Advice to Senior Management – Should find a way to motivate employees to be innovative during their spare time. Should also ask employees for one or two ideas to improve the website because they are the ones who know what clients have troubles with.

Current Employee – been working at Scottrade
Pros – Good benefits, okay pay, and very horizontal in the structer of management. There is not layers of middle managment contantly looking over your shoulder.
Cons – Very monotonous without much reward for working hard. The job is not very challenging in reguard to making important business changing decisions.
Advice to Senior Management – More competitive pay and room for advancement would change everything. The job is very robotic and repetitve. Employees need to be rewarded more for hard work.

Former Employee – worked at Scottrade
Pros – The people are great to work with, friendly, caring etc. They give you opportunities to develop and get licenses.
Cons – Senior mgmt is fairly clueless on how to keep employee morale high, and a majority are not competent enough to be in their current role. If you play the "buddy system" right and stick around over 10+ years you will be rewarded, but not because of your knowledge base. HR rules with an iron fist and buts in too much on the business side. Salary is not competitive, and bonuses are next to nothing. If you speak up on major issues you will dig a hole you cannot get out of, even if you do it in a professional manner. Too many senior managers are more worried about building their own empire vs. growing the company.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees when it comes to career pathing and salary. Promotions should be based on knowledge and merit, not based on tenure and who you rub elbow with. Growing the firm at the expense of the livelihood of the employees is not the way to go about it.

Current Employee – been working at Scottrade
Pros – Good communication with management. Easy work environment.
Cons – Low pay compared to industry average, low career advancement, unless you want to live in St. Louis.
Advice to Senior Management – It is common knowledge that Scottrade pays below the industry average. To get employees motivated, a pay increase should be considered. Also, the advancement schedule is weak, if somebody wants to stay with the company, but not move the St. Louis. Other options should be considred.

Current Employee – been working at Scottrade
Pros – Company Culture is great. The company really makes you feel like you belong and that your contribution of work is really needed.
Cons – The salary as a stockbroker should be higher compared to other companies. Needs more room for advancement to a higher position.
Advice to Senior Management – Satisfied Overall. The company is doing a great job on management and how they are hiring, the only downfall I see to this great company is the salary.

Former Employee – worked at Scottrade
Pros – -A terrific internship for someone interested in working in the brokerage/investments field
-Get a very large amount of experience interacting with clients in person and over the phone
-Learn the ins and outs of the brokerage industry
-Work along side licensed brokers
-Great hands on training from brokers and branch manager
-They pay very well for an internship
-A large amount of openings in branch offices across the country
-Great opportunity for college students
Cons – -The full time salaries offered to employees are not great
-In a small office with 2-3 other people (you better like who you work with)
Advice to Senior Management – This internship did wonders for my career in financial services. You guys pay a lot of attention to your interns and show them a tremendous amount of respect...bravo!

Current Employee – been working at Scottrade
Pros – It is a great place to work as the people are friendly and welcoming. Everyone is approachable and willing to help. There are fun perks such as drawings for event tickets; and the medical, dental, and vision benefits are fantastic.
Cons – I really do not enjoy the call center environment, but many other brokers seem to like it. During high-volume times, it is hard to keep up with all the communication and assigned online training courses.
Advice to Senior Management – It would be nice if we could transfer to another department after 1 year rather than 2.

Current Employee – been working at Scottrade
Pros – - You can really tech up and expand your skills
- They really do hire some of the best and brightest
- The people I work with are why I have not gone insane
- The benefits are very very good
- At least we still get bonuses
Cons – - Every quarter is seams bonses go down
- You can FAIL UP the ladder
- If you work for them 10 yrs / 5 yrs / 6 months you are treated the same
- in development, there is NO, NONE, NADA, ZERO, ZILCH room for advancement, once you are hired as a developer, a developer you will be for eternity.
Advice to Senior Management – wake up and smell the coffee. Just because things are bad now does not mean when they pick up your people will stay. The IT department IS your life blood, without it work would stop. How about showing them a little respect now and again and realize that maybe we CAN do something right if you would let us!

Pros – Descent pay. Good to first work out but like it will be a place to build a career. Just look into it
Cons – No growth there is no growth. I feel like i am limited everyday but it is ok the job is good
Advice to Senior Management – Stop expanding and pay interns and staff more i feel like the long run they will be like starbucks expanding too fast which will fail.
