I have been working at Scripps College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of options for students looking to fill work study allotments. My bosses were always very flexible in terms of scheduling (since you are, after all, a student first). I like all my coworkers and remain close friends with many even after they leave.

    Cons

Ultipro is strange. You work locally and tend not to have much communication with other departments which means you often don't understand each other. Depending on your position, there might not be a whole lot of professional development happening.

I worked at Scripps College as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

IT-FITS allowed me to grow my technical skills and my skills as a leader in ways I don't think I would have found at any other job. The staff were super supportive, and if I absolutely loved my time there.

    Cons

Unfortunately the amount we could do was limited by how many the requests the facutly sent in, but it just meant we got to solve the challenge of marketing to them and finding more ways to help them.

I have been working at Scripps College

    Pros

    (Worked at Dean of Students)
Really nice people to work with.
Also flexible hours, and you get to learn how to work independently.

    Cons

Sometimes you have to answer the phone!
Sometimes the tasks are tedious or you have to do repetitive things like stuff envelopes,
    but this isn't common

Fantastic experience as long as status quo is maintained...

I worked at Scripps College full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I loved most of the people I worked with, very cordial yet mostly respectful atmosphere. Benefits such as health care, dental, vision, retirement plans were superb. There was some opportunity for professional development as well as tuition reimbursement, great educational plan for dependents.

    Cons

Office politics are a serious issue and sometimes interferes with professional dealings. Hiring is usually based on graduating from Scripps or one of the Claremont Colleges and will almost guarantee you a position (even with no experience). Favoritism is also an issue, maintaining the status quo is upheld here when there are certain things that really do need to change for a better educational institution. The ability for promotions is limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more upper management involvement to quell office politics and favoritism as much as possible. Create far more opportunities for professional development and stick by the policy. Create an advancement program, recognizing the skills and contribution of leading employees to train them for upper management/director positions.

I worked at Scripps College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The campus offices are very flexible and understanding of student schedules. While the pay is not great, it is usually above minimum wage, and applying for/getting a job is generally not difficult.

    Cons

It can be hard to find a job if you are not work-study, but there are opportunities available if you look hard enough.

    Excellent On-campus Job

I have been working at Scripps College

    Pros

Working on-campus as a college student is great because they know that you are a student first and my work was always flexible if I needed to miss a day to work on a paper.

    Cons

Pay isn't super high, but most offices give a small raise each semester or year, so if you stay in one office, you could be making a decent wage by the time you graduate.
