    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More work structure within the lab would be helpful.

I worked at Sdsu Research Foundation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Campus environment and retirement plan are the biggest plusses. Wandering through campus for lunch or using the ARC for workouts before or after work makes this a great lifestyle choice for work. Work schedules are flexible, colleagues are good people, and the job is nearly always stable.

    Cons

Pay is likely the biggest issue, followed by new technology. If you can live with the offered salary, and are ok working with non-bleeding-edge technology, then this place will work for you. As with most places there are also a few fractious folk who can put a damper on your day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None, really. I think you are doing the best you can with what you have to work with.

    Pros

Working at a state college has its pros. State holidays and benefits. Opportunities for collaboration and growth in a variety of disciplines. Good place to start out.

    Cons

Funding can be tight in several of the labs, which can be a challenge for innovation and branching out into new research areas.

I worked at Sdsu Research Foundation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great health benefits, decent pay for entry level jobs, physically lax job, quiet environment

    Cons

Really heavy on micromanagement, sitting behind a computer all day, not allowed to talk to other people often because upper management assumes you aren't working, and very little room for advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees more, don't assume things before you understand what is going on, and ask genuine questions of your employees

I worked at Sdsu Research Foundation part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The work was interesting and the work hours were flexible. I was able to work around my graduate school classes, and, of course, San Diego is a beautiful place to work. The teaching staff are generally enthusiastic and care about teaching.

    Cons

The pay was fairly low, not leaving me enough to cover my bills. Otherwise, I enjoyed the position. As is typically the case, working as a teaching assistant takes time away from research, and isn't the best use of a graduate student's time.

    Pros

Trainings for staff are great. Meetings keep goals and progression.

    Cons

Funding is dependent on luck and state. Meetings may be too frequent. Traingings may be repetetive or unuseful.
