Pros
Can be a solid company if the right people are in the right place.
Talented individuals in the company
Semi-good products
Cons
Low morale
Bad company culture
Management is clueless
Employees are dissatisfied
Advice to Senior Management
Concentrate on your employees. There is extremely low morale in the company and EVERYONE wants to leave the company. In the past 6 months, I know at least 2-3 people that have left our team/company each week.
If you don't believe me, take a survey.
Pros
technology leader in the industry and pretty much to learn in multiple discipline
Cons
too much bureaucracy and it is relatively slow to move upwards, too many people who receive high pay but don't do much work
Advice to Senior Management
it is a nice place to learn things
Pros
work-life balance, good leadership, flexible.
Cons
Pay not so attractive as compared to others.
Advice to Senior Management
NIL
Pros
Care for people
Very generous in pay and benefits - High pay
Cutting edge technology
Cons
It is highly specialized area of business - only disk drives
Get lazy...
Advice to Senior Management
More communications upfront and regular bonus
Pros
Good people
good work environment
good technology
Cons
Strategic / advanced development work will often take back seat to the core business of making disk drives. The disk industry is dog-eat-dog and constant technology leap frogging can make this volatile.
Pros
1. Good benefits.
2. Good work life balance.
Cons
1. Politics
2. Decisions made are not good.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve organizational structure and provide clear vision to your employees. Advice employees not to jump in others jobs. Reduce parallel structural roles across globe. Improve team spirit and reduce the unneccessary no. of managers. Chose right tecnology and you may need architecture teams.
Pros
Seagte is one of the largest and best paying employers in Santa Cruz County. The benefits are very good as compared to most employers in the county, and comparable to most other large companies in nearby Silicon Valley. When the economy isn't crumbling and there are no lay offs in the foresable future, there does tend to be room for career growth and movement within the company.
Cons
Seagate is moving most of their functions to Asia. While not making an public announcement of it, the "understood" plan is that within a three to five year time frame, the company will have only a sales force and limited executive presence in the US. That idea does not make for much job security within the company and most people are stressed about losing their jobs as they watch the folks around them get outsourced. Steve Luczo wrote a company wide email about how he "loves" Seagate and how he thinks of Seagate as a family and how we should treat each other like family.....in my case I got that email the same say I go the news that my positioned was being outsourced to Asia and I had three months to stay and trail my own replacement. If I didn't stay, I would not be eligible for my severance package. Not very family like if you ask me.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more transparant about what the companies short tem and long term employment goals are for the US employees. Your employees deserve the truth and the should have enough information to make the plans are career choices that are best for them and their families.
Pros
Training/development opportunities
Flexible work arrangements
Onsite fitness center and canteen
Smart, friendly colleagues
Cons
Lack of career progression/advancement opportunities
Moving jobs overseas
Follows best practices, doesn't lead
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employees comments/feedback and take action
Pros
Excellent salary / compensation. Growth opportunities.
Cons
Lax senior management and old boys club.
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up or move out
Pros
Good culture, a lot of talent people to work with, could focus your own work and learn from others as a close team, good balance between work and life. Competative pay as well.
Cons
very tough industrial, HDD have to continuously develope new technology to be successful, and to compete with alternative storage technique, such as SDD.
