Pros
Tech focused company- Good compensation compared to interns at other companies. Fair laboratory facilities. Corporate structure seems geared toward the skills of the employee.
Cons
Some people seemed unqualified for their positions, others seemed overqualified. They seemed to hire people with backgrounds not really matching their positions.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue the internship program! you will gain a lot of talented individuals that way, and keep the ones that enjoy the work.
Pros
The employees are very hard working and are true team players.
Cons
Recent lack of leadership. Feels like they are trying to be sold, at any expense. Moral is very low which impacts employee passion to do their best.
Advice to Senior Management
Start treating your employees with respect again by being honest with them.
Pros
nice, friendly colleagues in general
Cons
lack of career advancement ; hard to get promoted
Advice to Senior Management
be fair
Pros
Casual Day every day (shorts, jeans etc.)
Great work life balance
Work from home policy very flexible
Cons
Too many redundant tools used due to lack of direction from executive management.
Incompetent management throughout the organization.
No career growth.
Not enough training for worker-bees, yet execs take boon-doogles all the time.
Raises not competitive.
Advice to Senior Management
IT Exec needs to lead and be more social instead of locking himself in the office every day. Also needs to make a decision and stay on an internally used utility/tool more than two years. Having to constantly convert and learn a new collaboration, change management or document repository is ridiculous. Provide more job growth within the organization.
Pros
Good career at a solid company until the downturn in the economy. Understanding managers about evening work with Asia. Good pay.
Cons
No employee loyalty for good performance. Only looked at people as tools. Good people let go just to save on salary expenses without seeing their real value to the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Just get the relocation of all jobs to Asia over with. Don't drag out the obvious so long.
Pros
Good benefits, relaxed work ethic, nice people, well-respected company, flexible, some interesting projects
Cons
Promotions are too often based on who is fun or persuasive rather than who is intelligent, too many unqualified analysts, too many analysts (often bored), cyclical
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize who deserves to be promoted based on intelligence
Don't have analysts make final decisions/heavy input on who will be hired.
Pros
Individuals who are excellent to work with and get to know
Flexible schedule (For those who are not bound to working a specific shift)
Casual work environment
Cons
No rewards for exceeding expectations, everyone is treated the same. You will be treated the same as the worst person in your department.
There is no room for advancement, everyone is stagnant. There is absolutely nothing to aim for or look forward to. It doesn't matter how good you are or how big of difference you make. Everyone is constrained, held back, and equally diminished by the corporate executives and their socialist policies.
Advice to Senior Management
Reward your many excellent employees for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments. They deserve it! Stop treating everyone the same. Even the smallest positive gesture towards a well-deserving employee can go a long, long way. Seriously though, treat people fairly. People who deserve raises and rewards should get them. People who don't should not. We are not all equal. If we are, then there is no reason to be motivated. Stop blaming the macro economy and using it as justification for your poor treatment of the employees.
Pros
Great colleague, nice working environment. Pay wise is o.k if there is lots of Overtime.
Cons
career advancement & salary increment is way too slow & little.
Advice to Senior Management
They have got to work on the career advancement & salary increment which is way too slow & little.
Pros
Creative, friendly atmosphere. Good professional relationships. Great mentors. Profit sharing. Culture is very positive, can do attitudes. You are free to make your decisions and run with them.
Cons
Winter weather conditions at one site. The investment community's perception (erroneous) that flash drives are instantly replacing hard drives. Cyclical nature of the industry.
Advice to Senior Management
We need an infusion of younger people in every job classification, on every level of the company. I'd also like to see Seagate sponsor more family activities.
Pros
Very casual dress, flexible time for appointments, tasks. They have a good review process 2 times a year. They have a fair raise/bonus/promotion process. Great benefits 401K, insurance, etc. The list can go on. Highly Recommended.
Cons
There were possibilities of the company going private or possibilities of another company wanting to buy Seagate. I hope that it is all over now. However, you never know. It sure make you worry about the future of the company.
