I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work for, good benefits, nice people to work with, good life work balance

    Cons

Uncertainty surrounding growth in HDD business, salary freezes for foreseeable future, not enough investment in certain areas in flash memory storage development (in my opinion), not a lot of opportunities for growth and promotion, and short term reactionary moves made to placate investors and shareholders at the expense of long term potential, just like most public companies (why hire hundreds of new employees only to institute layoffs?)

I worked at Seagate Technology as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great culture and environment. Mostly older employee who have been there since the start up. They have buses that will pick up employees and the cooks and cafeteria is great.

    Cons

There are always budget cuts. The position was supposed to be temp to hire until new management changed everything in the department.

    Advice to Management

Keep your word or don't promise a perm position.

I worked at Seagate Technology (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Still dominate in their industry (but slipping)

    Cons

Extreme focus on near-term has detrimental effects on the long-term business. Maintaining profit margin at the expense of share has lasting negative effects.

    Advice to Management

Be careful of cutting too deep ... you could lose talent that can't be replaced.

I worked at Seagate Technology full-time

    Pros

Seagate is a stable company with a large, consistent revenue flow from their hard drive business. This creates great peace of mind - no worries that the company will suddenly go out of business. The stock price has been on a generally positive trend for years.

    Cons

The SSD side of the company is a mess. The institutional agility required to compete in that market is sorely lacking.

    Advice to Management

Pay for better engineers who can use modern techniques to finish products on time.
