I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, casual dress, 3 weeks vacation annually + separate sick time. Frequent updates from upper management through weekly video messaging and periodic company-wide updates on new technology and milestones met.

    Cons

Internal communication is not the greatest. Often we don't know what's going on from department to department until someone asks you for an update on something that you've been completely left out of up to that moment. Pay is on the low end of average.

I have been working at Seagate Technology (Less than a year)

    Pros

Well established company, great location, people are generally helpful and friendly, work is challenging and there is a lot of potential for growth.

    Cons

There is a lot of competition in the industry and if the competition in quicker to market or has a better price, it greatly impacts sales. There is not a work from home culture- which I would expect at such a large tech company.

    Advice to Management

Look to be more competitive with your salaries, offer stock/RSUs to all levels of management, try to reduce unnecessary layers of management.

  8. Stable, but not a fun environment

I worked at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

About average compensation, Average benefits/vacation. Very stable, since they are only one of two HDD suppliers left.

    Cons

When we got acquired, everyone's equity got switched to retention bonuses. Not much incentive to stay. No fun environment. Not sure if it was the building we were in, but the security and administrative staff seemed to require forms and permits and permission for everything. And you get unhappy verbal warnings if you don't follow the way they do things.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time

    Pros

good work life balance, fun atmosphere, good people to work with, game room

    Cons

Quotas are impossible to hit, management provides no support/ training; billing is an absolute nightmare and there is no transperency into how your commission is paid out.

    Advice to Management

help your employees to succeed by providing actual product training/ reasonable amount of time to ramp up to position

    Pros

Seagate has some really cool new technology and are trying hard to increase market share. With some teams there is good flexibility and training.

    Cons

The salary is fairly uncompetitive, the atmosphere is circa 1989, the management team struggles to adhere to an objective and seems to have challenges articulating their business goals. Titles and career paths are fairly opaque. With the exception of taking six to ten years for advancement, there really is not the opportunity for upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Certain projects take a bit of time to mature, trust the people you hire to give you accurate timelines instead of "pivoting" too quickly.
