I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good tech company with plenty to offer to engineering employees.
Great work environment with state of the art building and technology.
Good emphasis on improving and streamlining processes to be more efficient.

    Cons

Lots of re-organization going on with mergers and acquisitions.
Work life balance is good, and supported
Opportunity for growth is limited once you reach the middle levels of management or technical fields.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Management is very hands off. If you like a micro-management style or a "hand holding" style, this is not the type of environment for you. The plus side of this type of management is the fact that you are given the freedom to experiment with different projects to better your surroundings.

The people on the staff are great and are willing to help. The culture of the support staff is laid back yet productive.

The exposure you get in this position is very rewarding. You will be supporting all sorts of platforms and software. This is a great place to get a foot hold on all sorts of areas.

    Cons

Being in the technical support staff with Evault is challenging in that there is a constant flow of tickets and there are not enough people staffed to meet the requirements of provided premier support. The average ticket count on one's plate will be 25 - 35 tickets.

You might feel stretched thin and wish you could focus your skills in fewer areas. In the future, if more people are hired, this might be a possibility.

    Pros

Cool new technology to work with, great work life balance and lots of work for motivated individuals

    Cons

Very hard to grow within company, lots of bureaucracy to deal with and note many opportunities for talented individual contributors to grow into leadership positions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen bureaucracy for mid level experienced individual contributors to grow within the company, reduce top heavy management.

    Pros

Seagate is very flexible with work life balance. Everyone works hard to get products released and keep customers happy.

    Cons

Work is always intense with long hours. Nothing great ever comes from easy work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Always say thank you to employees for great work. Bonuses are always a great way to show appreciation, but at least saying thank means a lot.

Current Employee - Senior Eng Tech Specialist in Longmont, CO

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This company does push the envelope of technology and implement new ideas very quickly. Exposure to many different Engineering disciplines is common and to be expected. Holiday count and vacation time are very good benefits for new hires. Our facility offers on-site restaurant and gym equipment and with instructors. Insurance overeager is normal.

    Cons

The hours are long if you are working a issue that is hot ( frequently ) and need solutions yesterday. Currently, in 2014 and last year the management went to a flat cost model for R&D expenditures with no yearly cost-of-living increase. Instead they will give you a yearly bonus which may of may not ( typically ) cover the actual cost-of-living. They are going away from Preferred Physician Provider (PPP) and going to a high deductible insurance model.
