Pros
Top brand in the Industry, great sales training program.
Cons
Relocation after you've maxed out your territory
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just get rid of the high salaried employs that made the company be where its at today to replace with college grads.
Pros
Big company but freedom of running your own territory
Cons
Current poor management created culture of fear
Advice to Senior Management
Value employees as assets
Pros
1) Working with dedicated colleagues.
2) Camaraderie among the Sealy Team.
3) Plant Operations a strength with a lot of body knowledge and experience.
4) Sales & Marketing driven Co.
Cons
1) Sales & Marketing driven Co.
2) Hiring of educated professionals that are book smart, but lacking the experience, wisdom, and common sense.
3) Political environment at Sealy Corp.; turf battles between different parts of the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
1) Hire people that are not only educated, but with practical experience. Train them to learn the Sealy business before allow them to apply their trade.
2) Develop overall business plan to synchonize each department to work as one, instead of Purchasing doing cost savings that ends up costing loss in efficiency to Operations due to poor implementation, parts not fitting, or equipment going down because things were overlooked.
3) Operations Team (Plant Management) is where the money is made: Sales ink the deal and book the orders, Operations deliver and bring home the proceeds in the end.
Pros
The best reason to work at Sealy is the the people. Overall Sealy Inc is a great place to work.
Cons
One of the downsides of working at Sealy is the every day attire requirements. Business dress is a requirement for every day.
Advice to Senior Management
Feedback for leadership at Sealy is to provide more flexibility to employees in terms of business attire and hours worked.
Pros
Employees worked well together without management help.
Cons
Senior management destroyed company with complete disregard for middle mgr and below.
Advice to Senior Management
SVP and up.....Trust your employees. They are the backbone of the company not you.
Pros
There is an immense amount of flexibility in a person's schedule. The income potential is very high, if you can figure out how to do everything.
Cons
Training is non-existent. Little help is available to new employees. New hires are expected to figure everything out for themselves. In this sink or swim industry, training should be imperative. It is clearly not a priority.
Advice to Senior Management
Training programs should be developed and implemented better. Additionally, adapting to market conditions and trends should be a top priority.
Pros
Friendly work environment, very diverse workforce, fair promotions and pay reviews. Sealy is financially stable, large profit-margin, and offers a very generous employee discount on mattresses. Good communication from local leadership; progressive in developing visual workplace, 5-S, safety, and good union-management relations.
Cons
Terrible 12-14+ hour workdays...EVERY DAY. Was hired in and told "a couple of weeks during the summer" of extensive overtime! It might be okay to work here if you don't mind not having a life outside of work or are trying to escape a bad marriage!
Advice to Senior Management
Implement 3 shifts...or at least hire additional supervisors so you can retain them by not having them work 65+ hours a week with no additional compensation for the additional hours (comp time/overtime payments). Or at least be upfront with new hires and let them know of the working hours involved before they accept the job offer.
Pros
You are afforded the flexibility to manage your time as you see fit so long as your work is completed.
Cons
You are required to be a very strong self-starter. With corporate offices being in Toronto, you have to keep yourself organized and motivated.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay more transparent with your sales team! We have to feel like we're trusted and respected in order to be fully competent.
