I worked at Sealy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Interesting in the amount of materials and processes that you are exposed to during beds manufacturing.
Time off was fair and shift turnover was fairly reasonable.

    Cons

Many employees involved in the process which requires a great deal of supervision, depending on the work force. Plant evaluation was difficult when dealing with so many departments, and so many people, that it was hard for everyone to come together to succeed overall.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more resources to the direct line supervisors in order to achieve better results.

Short on staff, negative environment, no team work

I worked at Sealy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Pay and benefits were good.

    Cons

Working hours were long. Director didn't know the business (all director knew was numbers). One of the supervisors would throw people under the bus to make themselves look good. Because of the one supervisor the whole work environment was negative, it was not a team environment. It was hard to take pride in the product because there were constant customer complaints about the quality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure everyone is treated equally. Don't give preference to one person. Everyone there worked hard but were never recognized. Need a Human Resource department that respects the employee's opinions and will recognize the employee's (non-supervisor) concerns.

I worked at Sealy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pays pretty good, employees are really hard workers

    Cons

Quantity is more important than quality, constantly push and push for more no matter what pain it causes, every week a chiropractor comes in because of so many physical pain issues, higher up management need to take a few classes on how to treat people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change out management or make them take classes on how to treat people like human beings not animals, try being the best in quality and not just quantity!

I worked at Sealy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fair salary, great benefits with lots of opportunities to promote from within. They assist with continued education which is great because you really need a bachelors degree to get anywhere within the company. They also offer adoption assistance. Wonderful opportunities to purchase beds.

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. A lot of micro-management which can be frustrating. Sealy was a much better company to work for before they went public.

    Pros

Nice people to work with, great benefits on mattress discounts

    Cons

Lack of funding for needed training to keep current with IT Technologies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a little more time knowing what IT is doing. Focus on the outcome of projects and determine in advance the cost/benefit of projects. Support employee training, training is less expensive than trying to learn a new system without training and reduces errors.

    Cons

Relocation after you've maxed out your territory

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just get rid of the high salaried employs that made the company be where its at today to replace with college grads.
