Pros
great crew of applance and ref techs
Cons
unfair rules to lower emplyes
Advice to Senior Management
become more involde with employs
Pros
The discounts were nice, easy to relocate
Cons
Uniforms were limited to Sears bought clothes
Advice to Senior Management
More freedom
Pros
Good benefits, good managers, the company has a good reputation, good integration of technology, commission rates are good on a few items.
Cons
Little opportunity for advancement, constant threats from general manager, terrible delivery service, can't back up our service claims, mostly poor commission on all items, no customers.
Advice to Senior Management
The management should not threaten the employees with termination for not meeting a certain, arbitrary metric. The managers need to hustle and be available ASAP for customer complaints and approvals.
Pros
Have flexibility with work schedule
Sales Associates are very friendly
Can move around the entire store not limited to one area of the store
Monitoring customer shopping behavior can be very interesting
Cons
Often asked to do tasks unrelated to job such as grill hamburgers for employee luncheons
Handout flyers for sales events
Must caught one shoplifterevery 40 hrs even if their no one in the store for extended periods
Very little training or guidance
Advice to Senior Management
Pay is too low! You can't attract and keep quality people for $8/hr
Too focused on metrics! One shoplifter every 40 hrs is not possible in every store
Develop better training programs
Pros
-discount at both sears and kmart. (30% on clothes, less than 30% on everything else...can't remember exactly what)
-pay was a little more than minimum wage 8.50/hr.
-don't have to clean bathrooms
-was allowed to roam around entire store.
-made a lot of friends
Cons
-was hired part time, ended up working 40 hours a week.
-no communication between management and employees.
-company wastes resources (so much paper wasted!!).
-people called in all the time, and I was constantly scheduled alone (that means straightening all the clothes in the store by myself!!)
-very very very very nigh turnover rate.
-management will talk behind your back like catty schoolgirls.
-cashiers and MCAs are paid the same: so unfair. MCAs do a lot more work than cashiers.
-management only yelled at MCAs for standing around doing nothing, did not care what cashiers did.
-very high pressure for credit, shop your way rewards, and extended care plans.
-work all over the store (everywhere except auto, tools, electronics, and photo) so answering customer's questions is not an easy task.
-training is a total joke.
-non-xmas music is mind-numbing but xmas music is worse. it's the same exact playlist over and over again....makes the employees crazy
-not every store has items in the ad, so customers throw a fit when you tell them that the item they want is not in stock at your store
-sears is open until 11pm during xmas season, but does not advertise it...so no one comes to sears after the mall closes.
-equipment is old, does not work well.. finding a properly working "SNC" (hand-held computer) and printer is not an easy task.
-LP is a joke. they watch the employees closer than they do the customers
-there is no security system in the store (meaning no beepers like at walmart...just ink tags on the "expensive items" like levi's jeans) so tons and tons of things are stolen.
-when I asked to switch to a smaller dept, I was given "no" for an answer...not even a "maybe" or a "let's work together and help you so you will be happier here at sears".
-the company hired to clean store does an incredibly poor job...so the store is a total dump: garbage everywhere, carpet never vacuumed, elevator floor never cleaned. no one dusts the fixtures there, so it's super dusty..ick.
-fixtures in store are ancient and most are broken/loose/ghetto. I'm waiting for a big shelf to fall on a customer...and then they will sue sears...
Advice to Senior Management
-communicate more.
-stop caring about dumb little things and focus on the big picture.
-care about what the cashiers are doing. (if they mess around, set them straight, don't just ignore them)
-quit pushing credit/shop your way rewards so much. push teamwork instead.
-quit wasting so much paper!
-buy new fixtures, the current ones are a lawsuit waiting to happen...!
-please, please, please change the music once in a while........
-----hopefully the new store manager, Matt, can turn this store around! he is a really nice guy.
Pros
There are good people to work with at Sears. The hours are usually not too bad. Many interesting pages on the intranet.
Cons
Sears is totally disorganized. Many online links are out of date or do not work. Major decisions are made on the spur of the moment and are totally unexpected.
Advice to Senior Management
Sears needs to find ways to cut costs and become more profitable. Historically & today Sears has far to many managers at almost all levels and many unproductive areas can be trimmed off.
Pros
Sears is a great place to work for 2 income households not if your paying bills alone or if your signigifcant others job pay little as well.
Cons
the benefits and the incentive, the benefits are so exspensive and especially for the family and they take it all out at once.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to speak to people in an adult manner, there is no need to disrespect. more congratulations and good work are in order.
Pros
The discount is easy and reasonable
Department leads (managers) make an honest effort to connect with you and work side by side
The pay is "retail reasonable"
Our department is self contained we do all of our own stocking, signing, ringing...so any discrepancies (which are rare) can be quickly resolved rather than calling for assistance.
Cashier work is easy. The store actually hires people with mental disabilities, English as a second language to do such. Sure, not always a fast and easy experience...but it really helps these people as well.
Cons
The store continues to fail where other stores succeed- I have customers ask for the exact same things day in and day out, only to tell them sears no longer carries it or we dont have the product at all.
Once you get beyond your own personal manager, the higher ups come across as know it alls. A brand new store manager came down to our department and forced my coworker (employed for twenty years) to put on a lanyard. Lanyards get stuck in our cases all the time, but he did not care.
The commission is a joke. I'm thankful to make 8 dollars an hour standing around while no one buys jewelry...but during the holidays, busting my butt...I've peaked at about 8.50 -9 an hour.
We only make money off of division 44 yet are still responsible for fragrance and fashion jewelry. We aren't trained or paid for it, yet there's seldom a merchandise associate who will help.
Additionally, we often get treated like typical cashiers when this is a risky venture to our jewelry customers. If you tell these clothing customers to go to a cashier, they throw fits. It really is a courtesy, and I don't get how I am responsible for someone else's job especially when it means I'm LOSING money.
Advice to Senior Management
Mind your own business. The commissioned deoartments have their own managers, and don't need a stranger trying to toot his own horn. We make sure all our dates and prices are correct, our customers are satisfied...yet in other places signs from weeks ago are still up.Unless you come down here and work with us, don't tell us how things are supposed to be done.
The employees are listening to the consumers why don't you? They say they hate the decor. The want a dress section. I get asked daily about claddagh rings.
Let people work up the ladder. How is our store manager some guy from hhgregg? The stores are completely different. Especially all of the ASMs and others who would love that job.
Pros
Flexible hours of work scheduling
Cons
Pay is minimum wage, boring sometimes
Pros
supportive management, you employee discount
Cons
Not so great benefits
low entry level pay
Advice to Senior Management
blah
