Pros
Rewarding if 100% committed to staying off all outlying reports.
Cons
Reports.....Reports....which you need to understand but sometimes doesn't cascade down to associates to improve performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Register POS upgrade a MUST!
Pros
organized corporate communications; they're trying to continue to keep up with market trends and still be very affordable. great sales markdowns.
Cons
scheduling issues when co-workers would call in sick and not enough people on the schedule. worked lots of OT, but not by first choice.
Advice to Senior Management
store general managers should check in with their sales managers more often out in their own departments, not just in meetings.
Pros
flexible hours and great atmosphere it is a place where you can build a career and have the opportunity to advance.
Cons
Minimal pay range due to retail market
Hard to please everyone
Lots of competition at the start and need to make sure you are well diverse
Advice to Senior Management
Need to pay attention to how some of the employees are spending their time. They beg for raises but are not going above what is required.
Pros
Customer-centric.
Company that is trying to remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.
Great leadership programs for recent college, business and tech grads.
Cons
Weather in the Chicago/Hoffman Estates area during winter can be brutal.
Bonus is typically based on overall company/business performance not individual. With the current economy it's been a while since we've seen full bonuses.
Advice to Senior Management
More presence in your businesses and in the stores. Stop by and visit the people who make the magic happen
Pros
quick way to gain experience
Cons
It is a bad environment full of unprofessional people. They take but never give, they expect much but never give anything in return. This is not a place to make your career
Advice to Senior Management
be more professional
Pros
They pay on time, every time.
Cons
Management is horrible all the way up the ladder.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire the incompetent workers, and hire people that know what they are doing.
Pros
low stress. fun enviroment, nice people
Cons
'lifers' don't abide by policy, never fired
Pros
It's fairly easy to get hired, so if you're looking for something to hold you over until you can find something better, Sears is a good option.
Cons
No job advancement. Terrible commission percentages. Due to an employee shortage my supervisor asked me to temporarily work in a different, noncomissioned department because even though I was among the top in my area. After they hired additional people, I was moved back to my orginal department, and they reduced my base salary. They told me they were unable to change it back to where it was before I had moved across the store for 3 weeks due to "policy changes". Management doesn't actually manage so much as sit in their office and only come out when an angry customer demands to see them. I was harassed by 2 of my coworkers and despite filing complaints with every one above me, and the HR hotline, nothing was done about it, which is why I eventually left.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to make serious changes to your policies. Sears Holding is a failing company for a reason, and that's because of the low employee moral, terrible products and poor overall service.
Pros
Sears offers training and Sears offers many ways to handle many situations. This is a decent place to work. Nice co-workers.
Cons
The only downside to working at Sears is the lack of advancement opporturnities. There are very few positions to be promoted to.
Advice to Senior Management
The only advice or feedback that I would offer to the leadership at Sears would be to find new ways to introduce new products to employees.
Pros
I worked in the human resource office and it was better then the sales floor. It was a job that changed everyday and everyday I learned something new.
Cons
Typical Management which does not communicate with its employees. It is a dog eat dog world in retail and there is no difference at sears.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate with the employees better and honor them when they are doing a great job. Be understanding and easy to talk to. I like when a manager as an open door policy. Then I feel comfortable coming to them if there is a problem.
