I worked at Sears full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My work was interesting and challenging and my manager was a very kind person which were the only things that kept me here for almost 3 years. I learnt a lot during my time at Sears. Co-workers were very smart and helpful too.

    Cons

Pay not competitive at all. No bonuses or salary hikes or promotions even though they expect you to work during vacations, holidays and weekends. Poor work-life balance. There was no vacation that I took during my 2.5 years at Sears when I did not work.
No clarity on goals of the company or teams
Poor Management. CEO never showed up to town hall meetings which are held only once every quarter. Recorded videos of him talking were shown which is absurd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees' hard work and reward them accordingly.
Try to bring some clarity in communicating goals down to each team.

I worked at Sears full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Most departments get to work from home once a week. Decent pay. At an entry level position, you get to work in many areas of marketing and get exposure to many projects. Most of the immediate managers to entry level positions are wonderful and interested in personal development.

    Cons

Majority of time is spent on very menial tasks such as making copies and filling out forms. Upper management changes their mind at the 11th hour a lot, so a lot of time is wasted having to rework when strategy changes and there is a mad dash at deadline. Systems are terrible and stop working regularly. People's time is not valued, meeting regularly start 10 minutes late due to multiple people not being on time. 3 hour meetings where most participants work through entire meeting is common. Meetings over lunch common. Company is very siloed. Bonus structure purposely vague and difficult to achieve. CEO has an obsession with loyalty program despite strong data that shows it is unsuccessful. Your boss's boss's boss's approval is often needed for you to do routine parts of your job. Creepy corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is very difficult to execute a strategy when that strategy changes at the last minute. Invest more in the systems used.
