Sears isn't the best company to work for, but it also isn't the worst either.

I have been working at Sears full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Sears has a leadership-in-trainining program that helps with career development for individuals who want to move up. I have received a few raises in the first year and a half working there.

    Cons

The hardest part has been inconsistent hours. It can go from working 60 hours a week during Christmas season to 20 hours a week during other parts of the week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat the supply chain as a cost center, but rather has a value center. Need to invest in the supply chain to compete in today's world.

I have been working at Sears

    Pros

As a Cashier, there really are no pros
As a Sales consultant you get great commissions if you are at a busy location. It's fairly easy if trained properly

    Cons

    Metrics Metrics Metrics!
depending on the management at your particular sears it could be worse. But it's a corporation so it should be pretty normal for all the companies to be as strict as the sears I worked at. They annoy you with metrics, threaten to fire you if you don't meet your goals by (x) date.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees with genuine respect. Not that artificial crap that smells like B.S. before you even open your mouth. Managers have seemed to lose their sense of human relationships.

    Pros

Sears is a very friendly environment to work in. Everyday on the job is another day to learn and excel within the company.

    Cons

Sears is a great company to work for. The only con is that no contributions are made to a 401k by the employer given the current financial position of the company

I have been working at Sears

    Pros

Gain meaningful experience dealing with the public.

    Cons

The pay should be illegal, commission rates have been slashed so far that every position in the store barely makes more than minimum wage. It's terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your workers.

You can grow as fast as you want to grow in this company.

I was promoted at least five (5) times.

    Cons

Noisy environment, but you will get used to it. (It's a call center).

    Training is intense and fast.

I have been working at Sears (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great underlying benefits. Paid relocation.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not desireable. Obviously they have overlooked countless studies on efficiency above 60 hours a week

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should ask current managers what works rather than constantly changing the processes based on advice from people without front line experience.
