    Pros

Great first job for experience and amazing learning experience. Management is very friendly. Treat all costumers with a new slate. Dont take previous frustrations out on next person or coworkers.

    Cons

Metrics are tough to meet at times. If you expect to move up, expect to make some people angry and possible enemies. Dont take peoples opinions to heart. You will see some weird stuff in retail... some may scar you

    Advice to Management

Highlight employees sucess as well and encourage improvement. Dont just poke out negatives, makes it so much more harsh.

    Pros

Flexible schedules, ability to leave work at work when you are done. Friendly, collegial work environment. Commissions put you in control of your own destiny. Good, high-quality product lines.

    Cons

Commissions could be higher. Management imperative to cut costs sometimes undermines customer service, thus hurting future sales. Adherence to "catalog" model (even decades after the last catalog was printed) often hurts sales, since so much emphasis is placed on ordering product via the web site instead of store sales.

    Advice to Management

Home improvement has a good mix of base and commission (about 50-50, if you do it right) but it would be nice to have opportunities for higher commissions. Either management needs to align itself more closely with company policies (particularly in regard to warranties) or policies need to be aligned more closely with actual practices.

    Pros

Great company to learn and develop your career as a manager or associate.

    Cons

Corporate outlook is not good. Too much competition in retail with lack of updating local stores. A lot of breakdown exists in communication to corporate executives to improve stores and make friendlier to customers specific needs.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your store associates and managers. They can really help provide insight why the retail stores are not performing at par.
