I have been working at Security Industry Specialists

    Pros

Company is very flexible when working with your schedule. I go to school and work at the same time so I only work weekends. I lets the schedulers know what days I prefer to work and they keep it in mind when scheduling me for the upcoming month.

    Cons

When working with a big company you're going to be working with all kinds of personalities. I've learned to keep my personal life out of the workspace because people tend to gossip a lot due to boredom and a lot of down time while working grave shifts.

    Pros

This company genuinely cares about their staff. Couldn't have a better CEO.

    Cons

A lack of communication amongst executives and middle management and lack of growth opportunity for those trying to achieve executive level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within and let talent and work ethic rise to the top as opposed to those you like to hang out with.

    Pros

Good pay, interesting clients. Managers friendly and accessible.

    Cons

Little to no training or communication about expectations. Going from one job to the next you either figure out who you're working with and whats expected of you on your own or you're stuck wondering what to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement SOPs and a more structured on-boarding/orientation/training program.

I worked at Security Industry Specialists full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Free alcohol and snacks. Stocked kitchens.
The employees (non management). Lots of good people in IT, Operations, HR, Finance, and reception.
If you are passionate for the field of physical security, this might be a good place. Company hires lots of ODOs-off duty officers, ex-cops, etc. The management/ trainers do a great job of 'training' security guards to believe they are "Specialists," so you will feel much better about yourself.

    Cons

    Very limited growth trajectory.
What you read in a lot of the other reviews, is TRUE.. definitely a 'good ol' boys club' environment. If you don't kiss certain members of management's behind, you will not see much career success or growth/promotions.
The company drives it's management style by instilling 'fear' in their employees.
Lots of internal corruption and mismanagement, within human resources to operations.
Great professionals typically do not stay at the company long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please change everything. Your reputation will spread quickly, and it will not be favorable to be known as a company where the CEO and inner circle walks around instilling fear into employees, and trying to buy employees' happiness with free alcohol and free snacks. Hire a consultant or compensation specialist to provide a legit comp analysis of the positions, and pay fairly.

Current Employee - Security Specialist in Mountain View, CA

I have been working at Security Industry Specialists part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good Pay (due to good negotiation with clients and having top-notch clients)

Flexible Schedules (FLEX means work when you want, not on-call)

The culture is different than most security companies. You can tell people take their jobs and responsibilities seriously on your first day. They pride themselvies in having an innovative and a professional approach to security.

    Cons

Management and leadership were not honest with employees when they lost the contract to Google. When the client decided to take security in-house, SIS pulled out of the contract causing a transition process with another interim security company which did not have to happen.

They pride themselves in hiring the top 10% security has to offer but that is far from the truth. SIS uses a referral system which security specialists get their friends the job and often times you get lazy and unqualified security personnel.

They are a boutique security company which somehow manages to get the top accounts but they also lose those accounts as well. So there is not job security with this company and they do not have many accounts where you can transfer to in the case of a transition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to focus on hiring the best and qualified security personnel and develop long-term relationships with their clients.
