    Pros

Typical pros of working in a big firm like free firm CLEs, stability, bonuses, variety of work and collegiate environment.

    Cons

Typical cons to working in a big firm such as long hours, low-balled compensation rates and tons of pretentiousness flowing all around you.

    Advice to Management

Give more compensation and support to all employees.

    Pros

Wonderful attorneys to work with, great staff, strong sense of family among co-workers. Decent pay, ok benefits.

    Cons

Office Manager is completely unprofessional. She puts her own selfish needs above the Firm. Employees do without basic necessities so she can save money and get her big kickback at the end of the year. She overworks, bullies and does not address staff issues privately and professionally. You're told by her directly that you cannot work overtime or you get a hard time for approval from her, yet many continue to work without overtime compensation because they genuinely want to help their attorneys get the job done.

    Advice to Management

Clean up the NY Office by getting rid of the dead weight. The few good that are left are completely overworked and under paid, the bad that are left are there due to favoritism and do not work as part of a team. You've lost a lot of talented, hardworking, dedicated people because of NY Management.

    Pros

Most of the attorneys are pleasant to work with and staff are very nice. Benefits are basic.

    Cons

Bad management. Pay not up to par. Raises are not are standard, as they claim to be. Favoritism at play!

    Advice to Management

The office needs a good office manager who knows how to run a law firm. Treat attorneys and staff in a professional and fair manner. Value your good employees before you lose them all! Sad to leave after so many years but there are better firms out there who will appreciate and value good workers.

    Pros

Very difficult to identify any positive experience. Health benefits are decent.

    Cons

Full of disgruntled and dissatisfied employees including staff, attorneys and partners. A very unfriendly work environment. Enormous turnover on attorney and staff levels. Double digit departures on both levels in the past year. Supervisors are not respected. It is just a stopping point in one's career to get experience.

    Advice to Management

The "family atmosphere" that used to exist has disappeared over the past several years. Offices have been marginalized. Loyalty from staff and attorney to the Firm and from the Firm to the staff and attorney doesn't exist. Has become a sweat shop.

    Pros

Firm is strong advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender causes and issues.

    Cons

Most Practice Group leaders have few, if any, leadership skills and fewer social skills. Very poor communication from upper management to the lower ranks. Very high turnover amongst staff, attorneys and partners.

    Advice to Management

Needs to recognize that the legal community regards them as an insurance defense firm and they should stop trying to convince others that they are something else.. After all, close to two-thirds of the work is generated from insurance defense or coverage or representing companies defending asbestos wrongful death claims. Managers tend to be petty and vindictive.

    Pros

Had a lot of autonomy over the software design process. The company has solid benefits and very reasonable work hours.

    Cons

There was little buy-in from management in terms of taking software development seriously and implementing standard practices. Not a group dev environment so lacking in opportunities to learn from peers.

    Advice to Management

Would suggest moves to formalize project work, requirements gathering, business analysis and dev standards.

    Cons

Upper managers can be cold, salary is below the market value, and office politics.

    Advice to Management

Please be more engaged with your employee and don't expect everything to be perfect when the time length giving for projects is unreasonable.
