I worked at Seedco full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people originally hired before the fraud scandal were among the best.

    Cons

The new management only after new contracts without ethics or true interest in helping those Seedco should serve.

I worked at Seedco full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Reasonable compensation for mid-level employees, especially if you don't want to work that hard.

    Cons

Abysmal pay and job titles for lower level staff. Everyone there that is doing front-line work has a "Program Assistant" job title. People might have real responsibilities, but they have a hard time finding better jobs because the title implies that they are someone's assistance.

They demonstrated no respect for staff - they treat employees as expendable. There is a very high turnover rate; they rarely promote from within and do not give any raises (cost-of-living or otherwise) while I was there.

They cut employee benefits while I was there, without warning or apology.

They are under federal consent decree for defrauding NYC on several contracts; after the scandal, they did not change any of their leadership.

They are incredibly top-heavy; one department may have three lower-level staff people doing work, with three supervising VPs and higher, each making six figures and up. They do not invest in infrastructure or tools that make the lives of front-line staff easier - a lot of reporting and data work is done manually by lower-level workers. Their upper-management is disconnected from the programs they run - no one does site visits or has any other kind of interest in the work being done on the ground.

    Pros

The organizational culture, environment and staff is warm and friendly. The vision and mission of Seedco is inspirational and motivating.

    Cons

There aren't any downsides to express.

I have been working at Seedco full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Laid back working atmosphere, direct contact with senior management, open to feedback on projects etc. from "front line staff."

    Cons

Training is infrequent - it's a sink or swim type of job and each individual program trains differently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

put proper training modules in place on a regular basis, especially for new hires. Programs should have desk guides modified on a 3-6 mo. basis for updated information.

I worked at Seedco full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Organization is well connected and exposure to NYC government will happen at this job. There is good work that happens but you have to look past all of the stuff that you might not agree with.

    Cons

Lot's of turmoil and shady activity. Search the NY Times for Seedco and you'll see what I mean. Overall you end up having to decide if your morals and values are important to you. I

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of that CEO, she's a mess and will continue to drive the place into the ground. Also, pay people more, if you pay better you'll get more honest folks working for you. (NY Times articles say it all)

I worked at Seedco full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There were some wonderful committed staff who worked extraordinarily hard to develop programs for the under served

    Cons

Under current management there is no hope that Seedco will survive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the CEO! She has been a disaster. She mismanaged the organiztion into a steep decline. And the Board of Directors refuses to remove her. The Board needs to wake up or resign also.
