Corrupt senior management and zero loyalty to long term employees

    Occupational Medicine (Current Employee)
    Reading, PA

ProsUnfortunately, there are no longer any Pros. At one time money was a pro, but now the max increase is 2%.

ConsDeceit is huge. Everyone, regardless of title, is willing to throw everyone and anyone under the bus. Even HR endorses awful practices. If you are willing to drink the koolaid, you're good though.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more knowledgeable about what is going on at every level. Think before acting. Make sure people in management positions should actually be there. Stop abusing good employees and rewarding cancerous ones.

    – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Abundant fraudulant billing enforced by 90% "productivity" (should be termed "billability") requirement

    Physical Therapist (Current Employee)
    Orlando, FL

ProsNot a single good reason to work for Select Medical unless you are starving and that is the last job on the planet.

ConsThe ENTIRE corporate structure from the top down is the reason to not EVER work for Select. One day they will get theirs for the crappy "treatment" of their patients and employees. MONEY is the bottom line of each and every decision made. Employees are all considered expendable and actually that is how they continue to rape and pillage our health care system without their employees raising a stink. They simply only hire contractors that are there for a short time and have an extremely high turnover rate for all positions. This serves to their advantage in that if everyone is "new" all of the time, they can't possibly start to try and improve the work environment because they are still learning to manage their work.

Advice to Senior ManagementI truly hope management gets what they deserve for the lack of empathy for our seniors. This is a sick, sick, sick company to work for. I truly will do my best to see that the upper management gets jail time because your policies and procedures are dispicable, illegal and fraudulent.

The "Worst " company to practice as a Therapist!

    Physical Therapist (Former Employee)

ProsCorp benefits are decent but have to wait 90 days.

ConsThey could care less about quality care or bringing in physicians to refer!
All management cares about are units of service! They want you to see 3-4 patients per hour and bill many units over 4 per treatment.
They want young new grads to pay less to. Managers never show any appreciation of staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe know they are a crap company. They do not care.

ProsGreat interdisciplinary team work. I don't have much else but have to write at least 20 words to post.

ConsEverything from micromanagement to risky patient care because bottom line is more important. Greed greed greed. Owe-full company. I still work there part time, but only for the co-workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't want to give advice because i really don't care to help them improve.

    look before you leap

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Greensboro, NC

ProsGreat benefits paid days off when they let you have them, continuing education. great coworkers. good teamwork most of the time.

ConsTerrible Power-hungry, Narcissistic CNO's Been through two of them. If you are not an RN, you will not get recognized or treated with respect. HR is quite two-faced and will smile to your face but wait till the knife goes in your back. also bites off more than they can chew. Bottom line corruption!

Advice to Senior ManagementGet off your high horse! There are other disciplines other than nursing. Also all the leadership team needs an ethics course and extensive counseling.

    Physical therapist assistant

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI had a wonderful experience during my clinical working with a great staff that valued restoring patients to prior level of functioning.

ConsProductivity is more important than patient care. Management is not helpful to new grads just starting out and still learning how to work with patients that do not want therapy. Even tried to go to upper management for help and was hung out to dry.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus less on productivity for therapists and more on end results. Why are only therapists productivity tracked. Why not start tracking the productivity of nurses, physicians, and managers?

Suffocating, chaotic and de-energizing environment to anyone not a robot

    IT (Current Employee)
    Mechanicsburg, PA

ProsGreat place to get experience and meet some really awesome people

ConsSalary and benefits for experienced staff below other employers. Retirement and educational benefits are severely lacking. Very high turnover rate. Most employees stay just long enough to get experience and move on. Extremely conservative hierarchy with inexperienced management. No real communication between departments (in spite of hours spent in unproductive meetings because everyone is afraid to say something wrong) or within departments. Threatened by outside ideas and prefer to place blame vs problem solve using root cause analysis or team brainstorming. Constantly jumping from one plan to the next without any methodology has created a chaotic and inefficient workplace.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward and respect employees for a job well done instead of the constant requests to do more with less and do it better. Don't act surprised with the high turnover and when salaried employees balk at consistently working over 70 hrs per week without additional pay or comp time. For goodness sakes, put a good plan in place and solve some problems!

Abnormal assignments for ICU Nurses at 4,5,6 patients to one nurse.

    RN ICU (Current Employee)
    DeSoto, TX

ProsCo-workers are supportive to heavy workloads, if they have time to help.

ConsAssignments are not based or severity, needs and care necessary for patients. Admits are additional to the already heavy and impossible work load. Negative feedback on any topic. Complaints of lack of logic or dangerous overloads in work, results in termination. Low census due to lack of doctor admits, means less work available for all staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement verbally abuses and insults staff on regular basis. They teach to respect co-workers and patients rights but show nothing of this to their own employees. Power struggles from nursing management and the medical director are a constant issue for staff and results in a fear for your job. All claim absolute power and the abuse of it. The receiving end of the abuse is always the nurses who are over whelmed with excessive care assignments. Paranoid work place for anyone who is threatened to loose their job daily for asking questions relating to poor logic or dangerous assignments like 5 ICU patients per nurse and one tech to assist that singular nurse in the entire ICU.
