    Pros

Probably just the experience of dealing with inexperienced CEO's and regional directors.

    Cons

    Backstabbing
    Clique
CEOs have no idea how to run an Ltach ... They are often seen at their homes for hours during the day and rarely speak with families /patients. They truly pass the buck. Regional directors have no idea what the CEOs are doing...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

pay was good. hospital was small. administration was respectful at the hospital level. had good worker safety programs in place. Training was adequate.

    Cons

short staffing was common. no upward mobility. very little lateral mobility. Night staff was uncontrollable. Lots and lots of turnover in the nursing end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

examine your turnover rate. there may be something behind it.

I have been working at Select Medical full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good nurses, decent care, good pay, flexible hours

    Cons

Terrible management. I was hired, then my nursing supervisor left immediately. I was "left adrift on memory bliss."
Mediocre to terrible training. It's "sink or swim" training. I was on my own after a week and a half. Good luck with that.
Unrealistic expectations for new grads...or nurses in general.
"Nurses Eat Their Young." Nuff 'said.
    No training...oh, that's right...I said that already
Backbitting, no team player. Ask another nurse for help and you'll probably get the vaunted "eye roll."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Blow up and start over. Realistically.
    1. Solid polices
    2. Checklists for new hires...everything from computers to passwords to contacting doctors to training skills
    3. A defined six week training.

    Pros

Good work environment. Flexible hours .

    Cons

Productivity level unrealistic at times; Corporate environment with little individual opportunity for creative input. Co workers have reported no raises since hire, not evaluated annually for merit.

    Pros

Not sure if this is a pro, but if you stay with the company long enough as an Analyst and threaten to leave, you will most likely get promoted to a management position.

    Cons

    Low pay
    Micromanaged constantly
Expected to complete tasks that have nothing to do with your job title, just because the responsible department doesn't feel like doing their own job.
Most IS positions are expected to be an extension of the helpdesk.
Not allowed to work from home.
After hours on call can be a nightmare.
Other department managers try and delegate projects and tasks to those outside of their department.
Project specifications aren't discussed prior to adding said project to your "project list"
Company keeps hiring managers, but doesn't fix the problems with the current ones.
Company continually expands, but does not expand their IS Staff that is expected to support the hospital staff.
it is a rare occurrence that a project is well thought out.
HMS/Medhost is a horrible application that we are expected to support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop delegating projects/tasks to employees that do not work in your department. Discuss those with their managers first to let them decide where it will fit in with the rest of the on going projects and deadlines.

I have been working at Select Medical

    Pros

There is such a great atmosphere among staff. Everyone works as a team to benefit the patients.

    Cons

It's a very fast paced environment and requires you to be very aware at all time secondary to the patients critical status.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The training process is a little overwhelming.

Former Employee - Clinical Liaison in Hackensack, NJ

I worked at Select Medical full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I liked my co-workers and to some extent it was flexible.

    Cons

Business was very slow and expectations were unrealistic. No one listened to us no matter how many times we made suggestions on ways to improve things it was always business as usual. Local CEO and HR were unprofessional and upper management is not minding the store. Local CEO was cheap with raises and low balled new employees. People got fired a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of incompetent CEOs (I'm not talking about the company CEO as a whole he's way removed from the local employment sites I'm talking about the CEO of the locale their are several hundred nationwide).

I worked at Select Medical full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not really any pros. Salary used to be, but at 2% across the board, embarrassing. Some employees really care but are not recognized.

    Cons

The administration. If not in the clich, you're worthless. If in the clich, you can take hour bkfst and an hour lunch. Ran better before Select took over. You were recognized for a job well done, not here, not now. Leadership team is a joke. Talk about the CEO behind his back to other employees. Sexual harassment happens here and upper mgmt sweeps it under the rug. HR is a joke. Didn't answer phone as scheduler, still don't as HR

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Regional VP or President should talk to the common worker. There are problems at this site. When President or VP come for a visit, CEO or CNO wisk them away so no one can talk to them.

    Pros

Great to watch how people recover! Great pay, Excellent Therapy Team.

    Cons

Need to work on team playing! Respecting all employee as one not cause of there titles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respecting all employee as one not cause of there titles. If the work is hard are harder make sure the pay matches.
"Just don't tell the employee you appreciate them show them as well". Always listen to the person who is doing the work hands on, they can give you more info then anyone.
