The people are the best part of this company. They care about work-life balance and growing their people. Huge community philanthropic presence.

    Cons

They do not always follow through on promises to employees. They are doing better about promoting women.

    Pros

Not much to say... was a lot of hype that reality showed was just that - hype. Not much substance to this company. I hear it used to be different, but little chance that it will ever return to the Glory Days.

    Cons

Where to start - After incredible hopes for a successful transition, the reality of broken trust set in. Not sure how the company is able to maintain relationships when the reality is so bleak.

    Advice to Management

Office politics is revolting, a company that says one thing then does another is unacceptable.

    Pros

Sellen works with the area's most exciting clients to build iconic spaces. As the largest GC around, there is a still a great small company feel. That means each person is given the autonomy to do what's best for the company, project and client. No red tape.

Another benefit is the location. The office is in the center of it all in South Lake Union. I don't think there is anywhere else in the county I would rather be everyday.

Benefits are also above industry standard. I've worked for another GC and know what's out there, Sellen is tops.

    Cons

Not much to share here. It's a place to challenge and be challenged, so critical thinking is a must. It's probably not the best place for someone is just looking for a paycheck.

Sellen is a top notch general contractor that's delivered quality work over 60+ years here in Puget Sound area. Takes care of its employees and also contributes various resources to help the local community.

    Cons

let's work hard together to bring back the golf tournament

    Pros

    Company has a great reputation

    Cons

Most employees are overworked and underpaid. If you are a woman in construction you will only be happy here if you keep your mouth shut and head down. You will constantly watch men that do poor/less work get promoted past you.

    Advice to Management

Learn what it means to be an equal opportunity employer. Women are just as good as men in the construction industry, and they should be treated as such.

    Pros

Most of the people are wonderful, but there are definitely a handfull of folks that I wonder every day why they still have a job with Sellen.

    Cons

Some of the people are incredibly incompetent, and must have photos of someone in upper management in order to keep thier jobs.

    Advice to Management

It is rare for the child of a former great company leader to follow in his fathers' footsteps. One seems to be doing ok, the other not well at all and needs to go before the company has more financial pains as a result.

    Pros

Was able to work from home the last six years of my tenure.

    Cons

Incompetent, disinterested and entitled executives that simply let the company run itself and reap the rewards.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone in the executive group and start over or bring John Sellen back from the dead.

    Pros

Autonomy, responsibility, field work, hands on,

    Cons

Limited financial decision making for young engineers. Slower career growth than expected. Construction industry is a challenging place to work right now.

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunities to younger project engineers to manage project budgets and subcontracts from start to finish. Provide opportunities for younger engineers to communicate directly with clients.

    Pros

They truely care about their employees, I know this is a cliche but this is the first company I've worked for that really means it. Thye try to get the best people in all areas then work to keep them.

Management also goes out og its way to recieve feedback from all employees.

During the economic downturn we are as busy as ever because of the long term aliances and commitmets we have with our clients. Unlike alot of construction companies we have worked with most clients for decades. If we are doing a njob for a first time client, we'll do more, guaranteed.

    Cons

My pay is lower than I could get elsewhere buy my job satisfaction and the corporate attitude and co-workers make up for that.

    Advice to Management

Whatever the formula you are using, don't change it. IT WORKS!
