I worked at Sempra Energy as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Internship program is very organized. Team building activities and rotational program allows you to meet and see various people/job functions throughout the company.

    Cons

Slow career progress - raises and promotions mostly given based on time at the company. Given the size of the company politics and luck of timing will likely play a large role in career success.

I have been working at Sempra Energy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid. Interesting work. Not the dull public utility type work you would expect but forefront, top thinking work. Compensation on par. 2-weeks off plus holidays. Depending on your particular manager, time can be flexible.

    Cons

Getting ahead depends on who you know and timing more than on performance. Variable pay portion tied to sometimes factors outside of your control which is frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it going. I feel Sr Mgmt does a great job here. Be more open to promoting from within the company but maybe other disciplines - don't just promote the next guy in line.

I have been working at Sempra Energy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good steady job 7:00-3:30. Women are making a dent in the "Good old boy's club". The gas entity of Sempra shuold continue to do well.

    Cons

A long history of racism against African American employee's. HR policies haven't been revised since the early 90's. Very top heavy in District Management. Not a bright future on the electric side of the company. The Electric side (SDG&E) could be sold or contracted out and the company will still do fine, because Natural Gas is about to take off nation wide.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should enforce what few antiquated HR policies that they have. Communication between the 9 plus districts nonexistent. Their ran like their all different companies.
