    Pros

Plan your career for up to 15yrs, then start looking for a new job in a different company.

    Cons

You have to understand that you are expendable at any time, especially if you are near your 20 year mark.
Management does not have employees back, it is only a stepping ladder for them to move up.
You have no control of your job, everyone else holds the power if you are in the right or wrong.

    Advice to Management

Very top heavy, too many VPs. Especially since you have VPs reporting to VPs. You talk about saving money, so you let the little people go. You might need to let some of the unless VPs go.

Doctors are not Gods, so quit acting like they are.

    Pros

It's fun, exciting, challenging, diverse, and competitive. Every day is different and unique. Great place to start off at today.

    Cons

Long hours, pretty heavy workload, must be very efficient at multitasking. Not very much independent working time here. Can be tiring

    Pros

Beautiful new units. Great nurse-MD collaboration. Friendly staff. Updated technology making easier charting. Yearly Bonus and yearly pay raise. Great benefits.

    Cons

Nurse/patient ration on most floors can be up to 1/7. Pay could be much better. Poor management. Nurse needs are often overlooked and unheard to meet a "budget" or the requests of attending physicians (what ortho wants, ortho gets). Unwilling to hire adequate staff.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your nurses. You want customer service scores high, give the ones taking care of the customers the ability to make them happy by not drowning them with patient loads and inadequate help. You keep pushing for BSN degrees, add the incentive of a pay raise. $1,200 a year in tuition assistance will pay for one class and a book. You give a pay raise for certifications costing $400 to take, but nothing for a demanded degree costing thousands of dollars and at least 2 years to complete. Where is the sense in this?

    Pros

Good teamwork, lots of learning opportunities

    Cons

    Frequently short staffed, low pay

    Advice to Management

If you staffed the units better, you would retain more nurses and patient satisfaction would increase. Increase pay raises, 50 cents a year is not enough. Benefits package could be better.

    Pros

Sentara offers great benefits to their employees and will pay 90% of insurance premiums if you are on the lowest tier of pay.

    Cons

The pay is nowhere near where it should be for the amount of responsibility, stress, labor, and demands that is expected in a shift. There's definitely a heirarchal mentality there and everyone will let you know it. They let you think that they care for their employees, but the lower you are on the totem pole, the worse you are treated.

    Advice to Management

Management does not genuinely listen to employees. It's a very much just s corporate organization that just cares about patient scores rather than employee satisfaction.
