I worked at Serus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

great customers who provide a very good opportunity to learn if you have a customer facing role. Good product in a market with a lot of competitors

    Cons

Management with some exceptions does not have a vision for how to stand out and is mostly following a formula-based approach. If you are not in a customer facing role, there is not much opportunity to learn or grow.

    Pros

Good domain experience. Great customer profile. Niche market segment. Flexibility to innovate.

    Cons

Poor engineering vision. Management lacks vision and ability to make hard decisions. Employee growth not a priority. Company does not function as a product but is completely project based.

Buddy with a CTO, then you are on right track

Former Employee - Software Engineer in Mountain View, CA

    I worked at Serus

    Pros

    - Good peers who face the same sorrows as yours.
    - Good for unmarried and divorced people who have lot of time at hand.

    Cons

    - Even if you have a manager, you only have to be accountable to the CTO. CTO micro manages all development.
    - Good place to learn politics
    - Don't think of career growth if you do not know anyone there
    - Not a place for folks who want to relax after work.
    - CTO/GM is buddy with CEO. So he rules!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be open for discussions.
Communicate the same message to the Board of Directors and to employees.
Everyone is important in the company since they are the face to the outside world. Not just CTO/GM. Good luck!

I have been working at Serus

    Pros

good flexible place to work and lot of opportunity for cross functional work and progress in to other functional areas

    Cons

not a lot of company growth in sales so although opportunities exist the weight or accountability will be small and restricted

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

grow sale, stay focused, define company vision based on products, structure contracts better and make each contract profitable on its own and separate consulting from priduvts

A zombie software company run by management with plenty of ambition, but not enough focus or talent

    I worked at Serus

    Pros

Some great talent a click or two away from the top, but much of the talent has left or will likely be leaving soon. Flex hours - very family friendly. Can be a very rewarding environment for cowboys and self-starters who are looking for lots of autonomy.

    Cons

A very tough environment to succeed in. Vision and ambition are not enough to build a sustainable business on. No core competencies to leverage - no technology, no real product, and no software development process. Also too many cowboys and not enough Indians or team players.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unfortunately, the board will have to clean house starting at the top, if they are to salvage any value here.

I worked at Serus full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. Lot of potentials for professionals to grow in their career. Most of the departments functions like a flat organisation where junior employees can directly contact their senior VPs.

    Cons

Even after six years of operation, Serus were not able to have a proper system for a new employee to learn themself. My performance was reviewed just after three months of my employement and was given low score which lead me to leave this job. They do not have HR and Finance department. Totally unprofessional way of functioning an office, No policies, no guidelines, no rules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do not criticise people who point company's shortfalls.

I worked at Serus full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Small size company. Informal atmosphere
Good visibility (if your manager likes you).
Good pay for the market standards

    Cons

    - No Processes defined.
    - Management has their own expectation which they will not tell you and when you ask they never give a good feedback for your growth.
    - If you are of this kind "Do the work and make it look big" then this company will suit you.
    - Ask any questions about the planning and roadmap, then you are marked and when their need for you expires then simply make a scapegoat for their failures.
    - The management doesn't want to be challenged.
    - Too much internal groups and you never know whom to trust and share your grievances.
    - Grievances shared through proper channel also are taken as discontentment.
    - Stone age technology and no learning curve beyond a point.
    - Their outsourced HR is pathetic

    Pros

Money Money Money !! You cannot expect anything other than money from this company.
As long as you are in the good books of the management, you will be getting good hike

    Cons

I am too tired of listing the cons as the list may exceed the maximum allowed characters in glassdoor. In simple words i would say that this company s**ks.

If you are looking for a career then my friend you are looking at a wrong company.
This company s**ks the juice out of you as long as they need and when they are done, they'll kick out worse than a dead rat.
