    Pros

    Flexible hours and helping people in a time of need.

    Cons

    Very aggressive sales, poor training, turn and burn employees.

    Advice to Management

    Implement better training and be less aggressive on using a follow up appointment a day or two after the burial to pitch people when they are grieving.

    Some of the best reasons to work at Service Corporation International- flexible hours, Lots of positions to switch to if your current situation is not working for you.

    Cons

    Because it is a corporation, some things get lost in the "big business" feel and TONS of paper work to cover everyones butts in case something were to happen.

    Good if you are desperate for a job and cannot find anything else.

    Pros

    For the most part, each location is ran like a small business with standard corporate checks and balances thrown in to follow Sox as well as other legal obligations. Also opportunity to move with the company if needed.

    Cons

    Entry level salary is low and hard to advance your career beyond a few steps pass the entry level unless you can obtain your funeral directors license.

    Advice to Management

    Your best future General Managers will come from the administration department. Find away to get them licensed as a funeral director so they can advance rather than promoting a funeral director who has no business knowledge.

    no supervision and never had to do any work

    Cons

    never had any work to do
    no flex time with work and home life or kids!
    no communication
    no policies or procedures
    high turnover of upper management

    Advice to Management

    do not choose which employees you like better and then make it obvious. Pay based on experience, not location. Higher upper management that will stay longer than 6 months.

    Pros

    I worked with wonderful people at the funeral home.

    Cons

    Upper management has no clue as to what daily responsibilies are. I was told upon hiring no late nights and then was required to work until 7:00 two nights per week plus Saturday's 9-2. Compensation is awful. Middle management has zero management experience. Just because you went to mortuary school doesn't mean you can manage mulpie funeral homes and people. Update the IT department and technology.

    Have them work in field positions prior to holding their positions.

    Helping People in their difficult days

    Cons

    In the last year the competition in my market has greatly increased. Competitors are selling equivalent products for 30 percent of what we charge. They are also advertising heavily. As a result no one is calling, no one is walking thru the door, existing customers are cancelling and going with the competition. My salary has gone from 65K two years ago to 59K last year. This year I am on track for 32K. Did I lose all my skills ? No Company will not advertise, but seems focused on high end celebrations of life that are extremely hardtop sell pre-need

    Become competitive, advertise, increase commissions; achieve cost savings by cutting middle mangement
