    Pros

Great company, positive culture, excellent compensation, flexible scheduling with excellent work/life balance

    Cons

Mid level management is often tied up in meetings and traveling and is not easily available for face-to-face interaction (although they do respond by email very quickly), no clear understnading of what my goals are and what managements expectations are for me, I'm just working hard everyday hoping that I am doing it right and at the speed they want me to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more available for actual in-person dialogue with your reports, give people clear understanding of your expectations and performance measures, give feedback with as much truth in it as there are smiles and "good job"s.

    Pros

Great job for learning many different things. I have learned many useful things on the job that I can apply to my own life. Have been treated like family from day one, also they treat you as an equal no matter what position you have. I Have been trusted with many responsibilities when I didn't expect to even be given the chance to do certain things.(which I like being trusted and given more responsibilities. They are very helpful and if you follow through and do things right, they are always open for advancement. Great place to work for and I plan on staying there for a long time. Feels more like a family than just co-workers and managers. I seen a lot of people say the pay is a little low but I have to say I live comfortable and still receive raises periodically and even based on performance sometimes. If your a hard worker and are willing to learn new things and make a career then I would have to say ServiceMaster is a great place to be!

    Cons

On call has its downsides and It can be a dirty, stinky job but no complaints other than that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication between techs and management could be helpful. I know personally it is very hard to keep track of all the different jobs you do in a week, and sometimes the lack of communication between employees can result in some misunderstandings.

I worked at ServiceMaster part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

ServiceMaster of Kalamazoo provided many opportunities for personal growth and development. On the job training with bosses that were vested in seeing you succeed. I liked the small company feel where management and employees knew each other and were working towards the same goals.

There was also a fun company culture and opportunities to participate in company sponsored events. For instance, each year there was some kind of employee "thank you" that was sponsored by the company and gave time for food and fellowship outside of normal work hours.

    Cons

Limited paid time off, sometimes long hours (but the bonus structure was nice when long hours / on call hours were required for disaster recovery work).

    Pros

Work life balance is important and the company strives to ensure all employees find balance. Personal and professional growth is encouraged. I have recommended the company to over 30 friends as a place to work. Three or my four children have worked for the company at entry levels while in college allowing them to experience the work environment that I have enjoyed for over 25 years.

    Cons

Changes in senior management have occurred that resulted in loss of long term friends
