I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family

    Pros

I have been a nurse for over 15 years and have worked cross country. SMCHH is hands down the best hospital I have ever worked at. They promote a team and family environment and allow the staff to have a voice with processes and procedures.

    Cons

Seton is not in every state but hopefully this will change in the future or at least have other organizations adopt their way of doing business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure each new employee feels welcomed & understands this is a different and more friendly culture of workplace.

I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good leadership and high standards in education and training for clinical staff.

    Cons

Compensation is not aligned with other companies in the region.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the managers and streamline the promotion of internal staff. Share the profits.

I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay, staff is supportive, values if the hospital are good, many locations to choose to work, transferring to new positions are supported and encouraged.

    Cons

Leadership is lacking in support staff. Benefits are expensive since Assention took over. Your put on call often for cut backs so you may not make your hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should be more interactive with staff and listen to needs. They should staff units better
. Management can be more accountable for their mistakes.

I worked at Seton Healthcare Family as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Everyone was pretty cheerful and nice. I worked in the ER and there wasn't much of the usual drama that you see in ERs. The facilities were nice and new.

    Cons

I didn't like the computer system. It was slow and awkward to use and the computers would often log you on automatically so other people would end up charting under your name without realizing it. This is a HUGE concern for lawsuits. Also, there were several men working there that would flirt and make other inappropriate comments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't have much advice here...I think they did a pretty good job.

I worked at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Self scheduling, benefits, wonderful RN Residency program

    Cons

Since Seton was taken over by Ascension Health, the focus has been taken away from patient-centered care and towards how much money can they save. Our support staff was cut in half TWICE. As an RN I felt that many of my assignments were unsafe and they pushed us to do more with less. Many of the seasoned and respected nurses I worked with left the company and they continue to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seton needs to get back to shared governance philosophy if they want to maintain quality nurses.

I have been working at Seton Healthcare Family full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Nurse Residency Program is top notch. Most of my coworkers truly care about their patients and coworkers, and are great team players. My coworkers are like extended family.

    Cons

Management is not consistent from floor to floor. Supplies occasionally run out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since patient satisfaction is a factor in reimbursement rates, focus on the staff that offer hands on patient care. Cutting back on their benefits or increasing their work load will result in reduced patient satisfaction and reduced reimbursement.
