Seward & Kissel is a great place to work and develop in one's profession

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Seward & Kissel full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe attorneys and staff are fabulous. People are curteous, bright, dedicated and hard working. Many partners have been at the firm for their entire legal career.

ConsThere are no cons for working here.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Good firm, good experience

Legal Assistant (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Seward & Kissel full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood experience for paralegals due to deals being staffed leanly; Work is fairly boring, which is to be expected of any large firm paralegal position; Partners and associates are generally great to work for

ConsLong hours but that's true of any midsize to large law firm; Not a very social atmosphere, e.g. people mostly work and go home without hanging out outside of work, going out for drinks, etc.; However, I believe this might vary by practice group

Advice to Senior ManagementMore pro bono work opportunities; More social work atmosphere

Great pay in exchange for lousy work-life balance.

Associate Attorney (Current Employee)
Washington, DC

I have been working at Seward & Kissel

Prosthe partners and senior associates generally take the time to answer any questions you may have.
There is no sense of hierarchy like I have experienced at a larger firm.
New attorneys get almost immediate interaction with firm clientle.
We are paid at New York rates rather than DC rates.

ConsFace time is expected regardless of whether or not you actually have work. It can be a long afternoon into evening if you finished your project earlier in the day and haven't anything else on which to work.
As the office is so small, there is limited support staff.
There are not a lot of *written* policies. A lot of information is just given verbally. The firm is working on improving this matter.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more communicative about where the firm is headed.

Lots of hands on experience, steep learning curve

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Seward & Kissel

ProsThe environment is friendly and collegial -- you get to know everybody very quick, no such thing as a "closed door"

ConsThe firm is small, lots of work, and the deals are staffed leanly. Repeat performers get lots of work -- so much that it can be too much at times

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter staffing; support staff is not helpful

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
