    Pros

Great people to work with. Good time off, a lot of it. Standard corporate workplace, but the location is nice.

    Cons

Little job mobility for a person in my position. Poor communications at time.

    Pros

The attorneys and staff are fabulous. People are curteous, bright, dedicated and hard working. Many partners have been at the firm for their entire legal career.

    Cons

There are no cons for working here.

  5. Good firm, good experience

I worked at Seward & Kissel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good experience for paralegals due to deals being staffed leanly; Work is fairly boring, which is to be expected of any large firm paralegal position; Partners and associates are generally great to work for

    Cons

Long hours but that's true of any midsize to large law firm; Not a very social atmosphere, e.g. people mostly work and go home without hanging out outside of work, going out for drinks, etc.; However, I believe this might vary by practice group

    Advice to Management

More pro bono work opportunities; More social work atmosphere

    Pros

As much responsibility as you want; very smart colleagues; interesting work; diverse projects

    Cons

Very disorganized; incompetent staff; brutal hours

    Advice to Management

A work distribution plan would go a long way

  7. Great pay in exchange for lousy work-life balance.

I have been working at Seward & Kissel

    Pros

the partners and senior associates generally take the time to answer any questions you may have.
There is no sense of hierarchy like I have experienced at a larger firm.
New attorneys get almost immediate interaction with firm clientle.
We are paid at New York rates rather than DC rates.

    Cons

Face time is expected regardless of whether or not you actually have work. It can be a long afternoon into evening if you finished your project earlier in the day and haven't anything else on which to work.
As the office is so small, there is limited support staff.
There are not a lot of *written* policies. A lot of information is just given verbally. The firm is working on improving this matter.

    Advice to Management

Be more communicative about where the firm is headed.

  8. Helpful (2)

Lots of hands on experience, steep learning curve

    Pros

The environment is friendly and collegial -- you get to know everybody very quick, no such thing as a "closed door"

    Cons

The firm is small, lots of work, and the deals are staffed leanly. Repeat performers get lots of work -- so much that it can be too much at times

    Advice to Management

Better staffing; support staff is not helpful
