I have been working at Shape Corp full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, the best benefits package by far (in West Michigan). Lots of overtime.

    Cons

Horrible communication between management and production. They could pay more given what they make people do and how much they make.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to work on communication and standardized work across all shifts. Need to cut down on internal politics and promote/hire/develop from within.

I worked at Shape Corp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Everything was great....until you fall out of favor with the management. They don't like to be told when they are doing things wrong.

    Cons

EXCESSIVE nepotism and favoritism exists. You will go NO WHERE if you don't play golf, go out drinking with the boys or suck up to upper management. Doing a good job is NOT rewarded there!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overhaul your entire management system from the top down! Hire actual LEADERS that care about the company, not how much partying they can do with each other and who is going to be their favorites!

I have been working at Shape Corp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Mediocre pay is offset by great benefits. The off shift incentives are numerous and make moving between shifts easy, you could wait years to get on first shift at other companies. If you work hard and put your time in there are opportunities to advance.

    Cons

Quarterly bonuses are small unless you get the off shift perfect attendance bonus. You are required to have improvement ideas every year and appropriate feedback isn't consistently given. BMI requirements are a hastle, you must enroll in a wellness program if your BMI is over 30, not entirely bad in itself but you have to remember to turn in monthly activity tracking logs which is a real pain, so even if you are following the rules of the program and exercising you can be hit with the non-conformance fee if you don't turn your tracking logs in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get consistent with reviewing and leaving detailed feedback for employee suggestions. If you want good suggestions you have to make sure employees feel like their suggestions are being given appropriate consideration. Maybe put a system in place where if an employee feels strong enough about a particular suggestion they can elevate it and have it reviewed at a higher level in the company.

I worked at Shape Corp full-time

    Pros

Big business with a family business atmosphere.
Talented people willing to do more than their share.
A place where "not my job" is not tolerated.

    Cons

Get ready to work and be evaluated regularly - not a con per se, but Shape will keep you under the microscope.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the goals and strategies out front and easily accessible; hiding them or not keeping them updated will keep your employees from reaching their full potential.

    Pros

This is a safe place to work that will get rid of morons on the floor often pretty easily.

    Cons

These guys are owned by a family in Spring Lake named the Verplanks and other secret investors who have no problem making the workers on the floor live in poverty even with lots of seniority. They use the dirty " profit sharing bonus " trick to pay low wages across the board while the higher management reaps all of the profit. During the recession they opened a plant in China to exploit poor Chinese families and do a large layoff. They have a war on smoking that goes as far as firing or not hiring good people. If you like having people smile to your face while they rip you off, this is the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no advice for these greedy, fake, Ottawa county rich people.
