    Cons

Organizational behavior, corruption, nepotism, old boys etc..

    Advice to Management

There are serious ongoing conflicts of interest at the VP level. The company is structured to maximize personal financial benefit for a select few. Audit!

    Pros

Broaden experience into hardware. International business and travel experience. Good educational opportunities. Smart employees. Regular updates on group activities. Good experience with agile development for most part.

    Cons

Flat organization. Limited promotion opportunities. Communications issues. Difficulty getting products understood and approved in Japan. Slow product life cycle for software. Customer contact very limited. Good ideas rarely make it past the presentation stage to Japan. Company as a provider of hardware, does not as a whole, understand software process and market. US subsidiary wishes to control Sharp Labs.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to improve communications between US sales subsidiary, Sharp Labs and Japan HQ.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Sharp Corporation full-time

    Pros

Flexible, comfortable environment. Good location. Salary is good, with the right manager, input is appreciated and talent is recognized.

    Cons

Fear of job security due to global economy, constant layoffs and role changes. Staff works in fear of severance but management dismisses or is ignorant of the truth. Good old boys club at the top, directors in general are friends of the VP and are generally useless to their reports.

    Advice to Management

Transparent can have two meanings, choose the correct one. Look hard at upper management, there are significant issues and multiple employees are seeking work elsewhere. Keep the talent you have by engaging them instead of driving them away. HR is useless other than basic functions an the ethics hotline is not trusted. There is nothing wrong with the truth, you need to listen.

    Pros

The opportunity for advancement and ability to make a healthy income is offered if you apply yourself professionally.

    Cons

I have no Cons to share. There is no perfect company to work for in my entire history in the workforce.

    Pros

The research and technolgy development is second to none. The environment is ideal for creative individuals who want to manage their career through initiative and hard work.

    Cons

While there are numerous postive attributes about working at Sharp, there remains a continual and growing fear that market and competiitive (Korean) conditions will test the firm in news ways that have never been dealt with before.

    Advice to Management

I would suggets that management contine to stay focused on the technology that has brought the company so many years of good results. As for the new challenges ahead -- don't jeopardize the brand for short term gain.

    Pros

Managers respect opinions of their staff, and give a lot of different oppurtunities to progress on to more technical areas.

    Cons

Can be hard to get new ideas passed by Japanese management, withholding of information is a big problem but can be improved.

    Advice to Management

Share information more freely between the Japanese and other design centres. Take on new ideas and be more aggressive in exploiting opportunities.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Sharp Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company was generous to send employees for various trainings and seminar both local and abroad at their expense plus allowances which will also be the basis in promotion in the future. Career growth is attainable.

    Cons

During economic crisis, company was forced to minimize workforce and offer voluntary resignation. To come up with their target number of employees, they make a promotion to encourage employees to avail of the early retirement.

    Advice to Management

Look at your files. Some resigned employees are still worth rehiring to contribute to your goals
