I worked at Sharp Electronics (US) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Office culture is good.
The handbook says they offer tuition assistance but specific branches can apparently choose whether to participate (this part is NOT in the handbook).

    Cons

There is no room to grow. At my branch I was growing and had been bored for years, but the managers weren't going anywhere and they didn't make any options available for growth.
They didnt pay the amount of tuition assistance the handbook specified. Every request from HR is likely to be turned down.
Small branches so its easy for managers to play favorites, cut heads, etc. But still a corporate structured. It's like the worst of both worlds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees individually. Offer raises with annual reviews, tuition assistance, room for growth. Good companies attract good employees so take that into consideration when you're cutting costs by cutting jobs.

I worked at Sharp Electronics (US) full-time

    Pros

Great work-life balance. Hours were 9 to 5 and place was basically a ghost town by 5:15. They also give annual raises and bonuses for every fiscal. Coworkers are for the most party friendly and helpful. Good benefits. They also were very Green, which was nice.

    Cons

Don't expect to be promoted anytime soon. Sure, they'll promise you a promotion and it will take months, years and sometimes won't ever happen. Then they seem to wonder why they can't keep driven, ambitious and talented people to stay there more than a few years. There are a lot of people who have been there forever, some of which are just phoning it (probably because of frustration with lack of growth opportunity.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually promote your employees, don't just promise to do so. And don't be afraid to let your employees to be creative and make decisions. You might be surprised!

I worked at Sharp Electronics (US) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people are attracted to the name recognition.

    Cons

No direction, no product, no solutions. Want to sell solutions to differentiate themselves but have no infrastructure to support. When you break it down, it's just a company that wants to move copiers only and the difference between Sharp and its completion is "just a click charge away"
This is a company that is definitely "on the market" to be acquired for its limited base.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current senior management has no industry experience. Spend less time preparing your parachutes and trying to be media/rock stars and roll your sleeves up and get to work!
