    Pros

Decent wage and benefits, good work-life balance.

    Cons

Incompetent management, lack of investment, and too many camps that are fighting each other for power and influence instead of working together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the employment and promotions system by making it fair.

I have been working at Shaw Communications

    Pros

    - If you maintain your motivation and you are hungry for commission, great position

    Cons

    - Conflict with Management, lots of basic administrative work and management for 1 sale (sales are based on added service not G.P.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Update the archaic CRM

I worked at Shaw Communications part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, employee appreciation days, shaw BBQ, great working team environment, company values, employee discount on products, working here has a lot of perks . Its a good place to work part time while raising a family or going to school.

    Cons

its a call centre- imagine being tied to a chair for all of your shift and taking call, after call and looking forward to your 15 minute breaks. Then they feed you mini donuts and ice cream. This may sound like a pro to some but you come out overweight and unhealthy after a few years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was great, accommodated my student life when i needed it.

Ok place to work as long as you don't expect raises and don't question management.

I have been working at Shaw Communications full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Reasonably good benefits, share purchase program. Most worker bees are pretty good people to work with. Most first level managers try to do a good job for their staff despite their limited power. Flexible start/stop times.

    Cons

Little to no training or career advancement unless you want to be a manager. Management is fearful of change and obsessed with process even when it interferes with getting work done. Lots of bureaucracy makes it difficult to get decisions made. Raises are poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the 1970's management mentality and lack of trust. Remove the managers who aren't interested in developing a progressive culture and who only want to do what's always been done. Stop talking about improving things and take steps to actually bring about positive change. Don't expect the average employee to figure out how to fix the mess that's been made by reorganizing the company, management needs to step up and finish the job.

I have been working at Shaw Communications full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team environment and fun people to work with. Quite relaxed office environment, yet fast paced changes occur regularly.

    Cons

Middle management is atrocious, no managerial experience or skills, micro management, no real understanding or empathy for the teams and daily challenges. Lots of verbal discussions, but little action. Systems are ancient and don't do the job properly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to be aligned so that the teams are not getting mixed messages. A roadmap, planning and organizing for future growth and team expansion would be a huge benefit instead of scrambling when things get busy and the teams are already frustrated and overworked..

I worked at Shaw Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people. Average benefits - but you do get discounts on Shaw products (cable or satellite TV, Internet, etc.). Recent move to flex benefits may be better for some employees.

    Cons

Limited opportunity to advance - unless your last name is Shaw.
Limited training opportunities available to IT employees. Leadership is too focused on keeping costs low developing talented people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging and really empower people to deliver results.
