    Pros

The money was ok, and they don't hire externally for management.

    Cons

It's an underfunded cult. You don't want to work in a call centre, just trust me, everyone gets sucked in and stays for too long. I literally know no one who liked their job. No one.
They don't hire externally for management, so it's just kind of the luck of the draw re: who's going to end up supervising you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    MOVE ON.

I worked at Shaw Communications full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has great benefits and stock options. Great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the industry and connect with other people in the field.

    Cons

This company unfortunately is poorly run. There are no room for true leadership, and management is always scrambling to impress the higher ups, leaving the blame and responsibility on their employees. Not much room for growth in company as managers frown upon leaving departments for other areas of interest and there is little upward mobility. The weirdest thing? There's was a rule that you can only have two personal items on your desk, and the COO would walk around enforcing this rule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Office culture needs to be developed.

    good perks (BBQ, events, etc)

    Cons

    BAD hours
to move up, u have to be "friends" with the supervisors and brown nose

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

promote the best candidate, stop promoting fake friends who network and brown nose their way in.
no wonder there was 500 lay offs, hired/promoted incompetent people

I have been working at Shaw Communications full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are great, there's absolutely no question.
Training decent enough, nothing to write home about but certainly adequate.
Decent people working there, larger group sizes.

    Cons

Work life balance is not good. I've noticed a few people say it is but in my opinion it's not. The schedulers seems nothing short of talent-less.
If you like working 10 days in eleven, sporadic hours, and enjoy seeing your peers get significantly better schedules seemingly based on the alphabetical order of their name (with a few random exceptions to throw you off) then this is the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some new schedulers... you've employed some real sleepers. It doesn't take a great deal of creativity or imagination to construct schedules in an intuitive way that can meet peoples needs. In my view if scheduling could be done with half the class and integrity in which you've put together the benefits package Shaw would be hands down one of the greatest organizations to work for, instead it's a little bit better than retail compensation wise with a worse schedule.

    Pros

Shaw has great benifites as well as has created a very engaguing environment for its call center employees. The people you work with make all the difference.

    Cons

Growth and development can be hindered depending on who is a pointed to manage you. Office politics play into eligibility for promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your people! Seek out and utilize the strengths your people may have as you have such a wide variety of talents which can be utilized more efficiently.

    Pros

Great pay, immediate benefits, and the assurance of full time hours. Good training program with a focus on one on one interactions.

    Cons

The expectation of the supervisory team can be extreme while constantly being micro managed and continuously coached to meet each individuals expectations. This can be discouraging, uncomfortable and meant not to personal however seem very personal to ones character.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review levels of turnover and question teams as to why?

    Pros

Some of the best people, it's the hardest part of leaving! Best benefits pkg and starts day 1.

    Cons

While some managers do a great job, there are many that need to go. It's hard dealing with terrible supervisors or managers. After working here for a few years you feel as though the life is sucked out of you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget the future; Shaw needs to step into the present. Many of the company processes are so archaic. There's software programs that can do more than excel spreadsheets and paper and pen.

    Pros

Good benefit and promote work life balance. Compensation is not the best in oil city but fair. Great employee discount for Shaw products.

    Cons

Company has always been talking about training, but it's always been just lip service. In various promotions, it not necessary the best candidate gets the job but who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember our history and the people that got us to where we are. Mgmt. at all levels need to surround themselves with not just the people they know or like, but based on what is in the best interest of the company, share holders and customers.
