Pros
Open to new ideas and challanges
Cons
Not as good in benefits as other companies. Bonus money is not at mid level management where the work is done
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication and less disparity in pay
Pros
Good location to work and they have decent benefits plan. They are in a business that is going to be in demand since need for power is growing.
Cons
Their business is very cyclical so may be subject to peaks and valleys. Some of the engineers are subject to layoffs when going through down cycle.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to create a truly global company that is able to compete with the best in the world with American ingenuity rather than shifting jobs overseas.
Pros
Great benefits, informal atmosphere, good support from co-workers, and opportunities to learn.
Better than average salary, and fun atmosphere.
Cons
1) A balance between work and home is missing..
2) The lines for customer service are very long. Consequently there are numerous angry and upset customers, who take it on the first agent, they speak to. So in the end, we have upset customers, and agents who have to bear the brunt.
Certainly not a happy situation.
Advice to Senior Management
More people need to be hired. Attrition is name of the game in the industry. That said, someone there has to find novel ways to retain not just customers, but also employees.
Pros
Pay is great no benefits to rate. I got the job.
Cons
Poorly rated over priced health insurance. No e.e.o. in the work place for benefits, holiday pay, vacation time for all new and old employees equal across the board. I am number not a person within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
James M. Bernard Jr need to make changes within HR and do so to make Shaw a great place to work with equal benefits no matter the time of service. Wrong doing and unfair treatment should not be a company practice allowed in the work place. Do be Shrewd and turn away from this James look into it and make the changes to HR to treat every employee the same equal in company benefits. At Christmas time you took a meal away from new employees and a extra day off without pay and give it to old employee's a day off with pay 8 hours. How is this a fair work place. What happen to the rules of the EEOC.
Pros
A paycheck in a difficult economic time for many people. Fair compensation. Can't think of much else so that's a wrap.
Cons
too many to say...no business plan, no communication, employees and clients are not valued, rolling turn-over in sr management
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the business not your own title and compensation. Leverage your business by eliminating internal barriers. Empower staff to do their jobs. Focus on outcomes rather than process. Recognize and reward teamwork.
Pros
One of the few Fortune 500 companies based out of LA so there's considerable appeal to those who wish stay in this state and work for a large corporate.
Cons
lack of career dev. opp.
Pros
The people working there are great very friendly.
The pay was very generous for an internship.
Interesting work, sometimes tedious.
Cons
Tedious work.
Work sometimes seems insignificant.
Pros
Good Fortune 500 company recognition
Nice corporate office ammenities
Good benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k, etc.
Lots of different business lines, opportunities and projects
Good training program that offers professional development opportunities.
Cons
Department tended to not promote employees from within, but hired outside with higher salaries.
Department position did not have any opportunities for advancement.
Salary too low in comparision with region and with other employees in department.
Environment seemed to be too tied to how much the middle management liked you, rather than based on employee performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Promoting more from within, especially in HR, would show more respect and trust in employees. Build up talent management program and ensure leadership is not acting politically and being more diverse in employment decisions. Employee engagement surveys are very important to implement to gauge how employees feel about the company and could bring more productivity.
Pros
Salary's are fine. Benefits are okay. There are some very talented workers there and the people at the worker level are great, people really care about each other. Has been a great place to work "in the past".
Cons
Have not received anything but "small" projects or feed projects for over 4 years. Layers of top management, layoffs have been extensive but none of the management has been included. Morale is at rock bottom and yet management still remains totally aloof from the workers. There are now other companies with projects that are hiring so employees are able to escape to more positive environments, all to the loss of the company. 401K match is one of the worst in the industry.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the current Executives and bring in management that recognizes the true value of the company are the talents of the employees and it takes both the management and the employees to make a company successful. The attitude that the management is superior to the employees needs to change.
Pros
Some good opportunity for learning the ways and means of a corporate office
Cons
Good old boy ways rule this kingdom, very old school and very cut throat
