I worked at Shaw Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company with lots of opportunity for those who like to travel. The exposure to subject matter experts is incredible so there will never be a technical question left open. I worked for Shaw for 6+ years and really enjoyed my co-workers and the overall experience.

    Cons

The company is made up of multiple satellite engineering offices and the distribution of projects and, by default, exposure to new engineering opportunity became less and less evenly distributed across those offices despite relevant experience and competencies. The down side to not being willing to travel and not being located at engineering headquarters.

I worked at Shaw Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The projects were enjoyable. Office location in downtown was great. Coworkers were fine to work with. Being a large company the benefits and initial compensation were OK.

    Cons

Work opportunities shifted to the worksite (SC, GA) and compensation for relocation was uncertain. Promotions and advancement were slow to come by which drove many employees to other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the value of the 'producers' and do a better job promoting from within to help with retention.
