I worked at Shaw Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The sky is the limit with this company. Easy to move up and advance

    Cons

Depending on what area of employment, there's going to be employees that are aggressive and ill mannered

    Advice to Management

Interviewing process needs to be more aggressive.

I worked at Shaw Industries full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They actually invest in their employees. You get the training to be able to do your job well, and you can move up as much as you choose. Worked 8 hr shifts so you actually have life, 12 hr shift companies are killing families.

    Cons

Extremely hot in the summer and so cold in the winter that gloves are needed.

    Advice to Management

Management is good. Benefits ie.insurance is pitiful, but I think it's comparable to other companies.

I worked at Shaw Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Chance for advancement, strong emphasis on training, legitimate concern for employees, corporate culture of vertical growth, good benefits

    Cons

Training could be re-vamped to allow for more consistency across processes, safety procedures are a bit overkill

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide opportunities for those on the ground floor to grow with the company. Take into consideration the concerns and opinions of those working on the processes when enacting change.

I worked at Shaw Industries as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with were awesome. I wouldn't expect learning as much as I did with the IS team I was on, but I did. The pay isn't too bad either.

    Cons

The headquarters are in Dalton. There's nothing to do there. Chattanooga is the closest city to it where there's more things to do.

I worked at Shaw Industries as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Plant 15 in Cartesville is very young and upbeat. I really enjoyed all of the people and my boss and upper management were great. If you can prove yourself then they will give you a lot of opportunities with cool projects.

    Cons

If you get stuck co-oping anywhere except Plant 15 (i.e. Dalton plants) then most of the work they give you is remedial, lots of filing and stuff. The plant I worked in was a very hands on loud and dirty job. I didn't mind but you might.

    Advice to Management

Make sure all managers that have a co-op are giving the co-op at least one relevant project per term.

I worked at Shaw Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pros of working here is one week of vacation first year, two weeks the second - fourth year and then 3 weeks 5th year. Pay is unbeatable for entry level around the area.

    Cons

Management pretends to care about what you need, but they do nothing to help you. They have no idea how to do any job, so don't expect to get anything out of them.

    Advice to Management

Show your employees you care, and not by cooking popcorn and handing out a couple drinks...
