I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – While not perfect, they do all they can to constantly improve and live up to their mission statement: Great People, Great Products, Great Service - Always
Cons – There are not enough females in senior management roles
Advice to Senior Management – Leverage relationships with Berkshire and closely related companies, like Coca-Cola, to expand more aggressively into global markets. China is a great start but the UK, Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia all represent growth opportunities.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I worked at Shaw Industries full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Professional environment, high rate of training and development, easy to change jobs within the company, excellent management trainee program for recent grads, most managers have engineering degrees.
Cons – Bureaucratic, few female managers and no female executives, headquarters and most plants located in small towns, old school, top heavy with too many management layers, ineffective employees seem to be protected against losing their jobs, "sink or swim" culture.
Advice to Senior Management – Allow flex time and telecommuting part-time in more departments.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great Executive Management!!! Especially the CFO. They will stop and talk to the average employee.
Cons – Some departmetns are allowed to workfrom home and allowed flex schedules while other that could do the same are not allowed. Some Management believes in face time. Some are very mcro-managers. If you are not from Dalton, prepare to start looking for another job within 6 months. Do not sign a long term agreement to stay if they relocate you here. No where to live if not from this area. Building has cockroaches all over it. Recently made major changes to the bonus plan. Managers have their own favorites. Just bad overall moral. I would stay away unless like I said you are from Dalton.. There is nothing in Dalton, GA.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – You will develop valuable managerial skills that you can use anywhere. You may also inadvertently see examples of how not too manage.
If you are a "Golden Boy" or in the Boys Club, you will move up regardless of how inept you are. Incompetence will not necessarily prevent you from being promoted.
The company is not too bad if you are not in Manufacturing or Production.
Cons – This company was once a great place to work. It is sad to see how it has declined in the last 10 years.
If you are not a "Golden Boy" or on the fast track, then forget it. Not only will you not move up, you will eventually be the fall guy for the incompetence of some Golden Boy. They preach quality and effeciency relentlessly. Yet, you would be amazed at how they will turn a blind eye to the constant screw ups of some of their "special" people. I have seen customers and business lost and product lines ruined because Management insists on protecting some Golden Child, rather than put someone in the position that can do the job.
Human Resources is a joke. Once again, they will help you if you are on the fast track and they think there will be a payoff for them down the road. If you aren't in the Boy's Club, then forget it. They are not interested in helping you or even listening to you.
By now, a pattern should is emerging. It is not a bad place to start and acquire some skills. However, if you have not progressed after 5 years, then you either have to accept your fate or leave the company. It is not a place to work long term if you are looking for advancement.
Competence, technical expertise, and a good work record with numerous accomplishments will not prevent you from being the fall guy. They will cut you loose in a minute to protect one of their Golden Boys.
Advice to Senior Management – "He comes from a good family" and "I know his daddy" are not really good criteria for determining who gets a promotion.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Big company, small town. Great values and leadership. Industry leader in service quality and, usually, cost. Growing product and geographic diversity. Due for a substantial rebound in volume after many years of sluggishness.
Cons – Too heavy on carpet products in the mix. Difficult industry economics (housing). Strong competitive challenges in base products.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep diversifying, keep a steady hand.

Pros – Great Employee Development programs. Good Management. HR worked hard to take care of employees
Cons – Work on Saturdays. Still has some of the "good Ol boy" network.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue toward diversity and look outside of the company for new talent.
