Pros
Good experience. I did it for my internship
Cons
The locations can be remote, especially if you live outside of Alberta.
Advice to Senior Management
Good job
Pros
Competitive salary and benefits package
Lots of paid training opportunities
Good work/life balance
Cons
Management's apparent indulgence for rude and unprofessional behaviours
Management is often times very disorganized and some may say dishonest. Lacks clear direction
Heavy office politics, who you know versus what you know is key
"Us versus them" mentality among coworkers
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach
Upper Management and HR need to stop turning a blind eye to bullying, this is a growing problem and must be stopped.
Increase communication between upper and middle management
Value and respect your employees
Pros
Shell Canada offers competitive pay salaries, it's a fast paced environment and good opportunity to gain experience and build of your strengths.
Cons
They are a highly desirable company to work for but they take a very long time to response to your messages.
Advice to Senior Management
I was overall satisfied with the job by those in leadership roles at Shell.
Pros
-competitive salary and compensation package
-lots of downtime
-lots of paid training/courses
-good focus on safety
-modern work environment; ergonomic office furniture and equipment
Cons
-management has poor decision making ability. very disorganized!
-fails to practice what it preaches, "respect, diversity, and inclusion"
-degrading and offensive work environment; if you're new in shell, be prepared for lewd jokes and insidious messages being passed around in the office or out n the field all day.
-political environment; favouritism trumps work performance
-does not value employees in lower ranks; no room for advancement
-layoffs in the last two years and possibly more in the years to come
Advice to Senior Management
senior management is mediocre at its best. what a joke! eliminate political agenda and listen to what your people have to say.
Pros
-great pay
-huge focus on safety before and after BP incident
-lots of downtime
-lots of paid training/courses
Cons
-endless meetings, no solutions
-no career advancement
-must put in decades before any promotion for anyone
-mundane, boring work
Advice to Senior Management
more leadership is needed, less meetings more decisions. meaningful employment that actually uses peoples skills, more communication about limited opportunities within company
Pros
The experience and salary were excellent for university students. Their coop program included seminars on career planning. Co-workers were generally helpful in providing assistance to coops.
Cons
No benefits available to coop students (sucks when you require expensive dental work). Coworker interaction outside of work was limited.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide a benefits package to coop students. The other support they receive is nice, but medical and dental plans would be a big plus.
Pros
-Good pay and respect employees in regards to work/balance life..
- Loves those flex days
- Benefits are not too bad..
Cons
- Sometimes upper management makes poor decisions
- Company in a shift to global model means jobs losses here in North America.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop shipping out jobs to overseas or you will lose valuable and knowledgable employees.. Plus, it affects loyalty and morale...
Pros
Good benefits and pension plan
Fairly family orientated
Good location
Thats about it, can't think of anything else to say
Cons
Management expects alot and gives little
Different areas of the company are operated differently
Micromanage small things and overlook larger problems
Advice to Senior Management
Quit micromanaging and give something back to employees. Alot is asked of employees in certain parts of the company and you have to fight tooth and nail to get a deserved raise,
Pros
- Industry leading compensation & benefits, especially for the IT sector
- Excellent work/life balance with generous vacation & flex time
- Investment in up to date technologies
- Training and professional development
- Great success sharing program
- Modern, comfortable work environment
Cons
- Global organization is trending towards outsourcing many IT functions
- Often dysfunctional management in the IT organization
- Senior management often views IT as a unnecessary drain on resources
Advice to Senior Management
- Recognize that certain IT functions are key to core business objectives and retain them in house
