Pros
Excellent compensation and work environment; the management are competent and caring and do not micromanage or stand in the way of you doing your work.
Cons
HR can be overly bureaucratic and get in the way of new hires, but for the most part things seem to work pretty well.
Pros
Always treated with respect and given a voice - never came across any bullying or harassment and very embracing of cultural differences
Great opportunities especially if willing to relocate and move around. Great support in this if this was your choice too.
Cons
Can be a little slow in decision making sometimes - needs to lose the lumbering giant model and be a bit more fleet of foot.
Advice to Senior Management
Always act as if you are operating in recession - stop the waste that happens and spend money as if this was your own business
Pros
Good Pay, Multicultural Teams, High Tech, Good work life balance, Good interaction with colleagues from different disciplines on various projects.
Cons
Low visibility, number of hierarchical levels can be dis-incentivizing
Advice to Senior Management
Visibility levels should increase, employees should be given time off for further studies and for exploring other career options both within and outside the company
Pros
Challenging work. Multinational workforce. High levels of responsibility. Competitive compensation. Good training. Great name for the CV. Many opportunities in almost every field
Cons
Bureocratic.
Culture is not uniform (as you would expect in such mamooth company) and hence some pockets of the company are less than pleasant
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce number of managers that need to approve things in order to get things done quickly. Get rid of the view of "employment for life" many employees hold, it drives to innefficiencies.
Get better at choosing middle management.
Pros
Good place to start and learn, but a dead end if you are already established.
Cons
Very unprofessional environment, really suffers from a lack of respect for employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Show some appreciation for the people that work for you.
Pros
Employees are encouraged to take control of their personal development, but balanced with guidance from management
The opportunity exists to work in different business units
Multiple U.S. locations and Overseas roles
Community Conscious
Fantastic benefits
Cons
Slow to make decisions
External hires can have difficulty assimilating
Advice to Senior Management
The success of Shell in the future will revolve around three points: The ability to work collaboratively with NOC's, the technological foundation to lead in the development and implementation of low carbon/sustainable fuels, and become the "good neighbor" that communities desire to work with, grow and support.
Pros
Shell has a lot of opportunities to move your career in any direction you want, but you have to make your own contacts and plan ahead to move in to another position. As I Was getting my bachelors degree in another field of study than what I was employed in, I Was told I would need to quit Shell and work elsewhere after I got my degree. I remained at Shell for another 16 years after receiving my Bachelors in MIS but I had to acquire interviews as a new college hire through my university (I was already a 13 yr employee at Shell by then) - unconventional method but it worked.
Cons
Not a lot of cons even for a large multi-national petroleum company with 93,000 employees worldwide.
As Shell is a foreign owned company, a lot of the preference goes to employees already oversees, or that work oversees frequently and build the familiarity with the decision makers in UK & Netherlands
Advice to Senior Management
Keep communicating with the divisions - not just in teleconferences and webinars, but face to face - get to know the people on "the other side of the pond". I was fortunate to have Sr Management that did that, but other colleagues of mine in other groups were not as fortunate.
Pros
nice company, satisfied working environment including people, working place and distributor is very good to control. and I believe is a good place
Cons
Where you work for and good place, and nice routine to be a business man. and can keep work and life balance
Advice to Senior Management
not to much, and shell oil is not a company claims the leadership, not so important as some company, also needed.
Pros
It is a fair company and always seek to improve their standards.
Cons
The overall renumeration is below industry average atleast for Technicians.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut wastage and invest in staff welfare . Develop Technician Exchange programs with other opcos.
Pros
The People; The Technology; The breadth of opportunity; Diversity
Cons
Slow, Process Driven, Busy; spread out
