    Pros

Corporate is willing to take advise on how to improve operation from an employee perspective as well as improve the store for customers. Our district had great managment and our store was like a family. Work was inconsistent on difficulty depending on customer traffic and that lead to each day being fresh. I never had a day that I was bored.

    Cons

Pricing is high for some regional areas which led to mean customers who got sticker shocked. They are suppose to be working on that though. They have gone through three CEO's in the last three years and each one wants to run the company in a new direction. Leading to massive store layout changes each year. Their corporate team will throw management under the bus and void company policy to please a customer, even if the customer has no intention of returning. This led to several stores in our district not having managers. Ultimately this is an older company trying to find itself in a newer market and this has led to over 40 corporate layoffs as well as over 13 store closings within a six month time frame. They are opening new stores in the western region of the country but if they don't fix the corporate team this company will drastically downsize to a few stores. If you do get a job here though, expect to be at work come hell or high water. We couldn't close the store in a blizzard until a state of emergency was issued.

    Advice to Management

Stick with a single CEO and stop expanding too fast. Its costing jobs and major monetary loss from rushed decisions.

    Pros

Flexible hours, working with other people is great. Low customer traffic means a lot of downtime. You get to walk around a lot.

    Cons

Horrible pay, management uses fear to people to work. Treats their employees like non humans. Treats their employees like kids. Holidays are the worst

    Advice to Management

    Need more frequent raises

    Pros

    Great People to work with.
    Gets recognition when deserved
    Supervisors are awesome
    Management is Okay

    Cons

Micromanagement is on a rampage, communication between store manager and employee is very poor and does not understand the high repeat of costumers. Pay is below average for majority of positions. I feel the corporate offices make rash decisions without true understanding of how the store works. The benefits are okay, if you are truly sick/hurt. Overtime (even a minute over) is a no no, even though I, as well as other employees would gladly work over time to get the job done in the "time frame". Unfortunately the company is all about the numbers and who gives a crud about the employees. Sounds like we are slowly becoming wal-mart, its kinda sad.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication! For the love of god keep the employees in the loop. It is frustrating when something changes with out warning or being told. Corporate needs to worry less about the numbers and worry about the ridiculously high of turnover rate of their own employees. Keep and eye on ALL stores and don't run the big box like a hometown, it will be a disaster. Cutting positions won't improve anything, just make employees more frustrated and running good employees away that the company could benefit from.

    Pros

They have a lot of stores all over the country.

    Cons

They are very unorganized and money seekers.

    Advice to Management

Think about every location seperately. Not everything works thoroughly in every state.

    Pros

Great team; loved the people I worked with in my department.

    Cons

Way too many people in management; many people are too obsessed with titles and advancement at the expense of anyone they can throw under the bus.

I have been working at ShopKo Stores part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, some good people to work with, sometimes there are days where they give you double the employee discount

    Cons

Some managers don't give a crap about your personal life--- you'll be scheduled to close every single day or you'll tell them you NEED a day off and they'll schedule you anyway.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to trust and listen to all their employees. There are some really good ideas generated at store level, but they never seem to filter up the ladder.
