    Pros

Location and employee discount. One pro is there has been a management change. There may be hope. We'll see.

    Cons

Unrealistic call time expectations. Archaic software platform. Horrible customers. Lack of information. Quick to fire people unnecessarily.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be realistic that Reps are human beings not robots. We have lives outside of your "business needs."

    Pros

One of the few places within the twin cities metro area where one can find a job in television production of any kind.
Live 24/7 environment provides a fast paced work environment on the production side.

    Cons

    Short staffed.
Long work weeks and constantly changing days off.
Poor pay as compared to other places.
    Equipment is outdated.
Management seems to be all too happy to hire more "higher ups, suit type people" and leaves the rest of the workers under staffed.
    No Dental in benefits plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance out the shifts, make sure each shift is fully staffed.
    Bring back Dental insurance.
Don't ignore the complaints that have been raised by lower level workers.

Struggling Company = Poor work environment

Former Employee - Call Center Quality Assurance Coach in Eden Prairie, MN

    I worked at ShopNBC

    Pros

Because there have been so many layoffs, I was able to build my resume with all the additional duties I picked up. This however was stressful and created long days on a salary to make up for being short staffed.

    Cons

Poor pay in relation to other companies. They have cut 401K match and Dental out of the benefits provided. Of course, there is no pay towards additional schooling. Promotion of "friends" of management throughout the company. Most upper management hired since Keith took over as CEO has been from QVC, where he came from. It happened in the call center too. People who went out and partied with others below and above them were promoted easily. The frequent lay offs created an environment that was very short staffed and this was very stressful. It created very long days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote based on performance not brown nosing and friendships. Pay wages and benefits matching the market rate. Provide educational opportunities to the employees, this will only help the company grow.

    Pros

If you want to work in television this is one of the few places in Minnesota to do so.

    Cons

Terribly inept upper management, low salaries, promotion of people who work the system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your employees more and offer decent compensation. Why do you think people leave that place in droves?

    Pros

TV retail can be fast and fun, just not here.

    Cons

Senior management philosophy changes with the wind. Not enough staff. Constant turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hope that someone buys the company and bails you out.

I have been working at ShopNBC

    Pros

Fun atmosphere with flexibility in hours and taking time off when needed. Supportive departments and buyers. You learn a lot starting from the ground up

    Cons

Little to no training. It is all done on the job and by other MC's so you feel like a burden to them. Also, all the responsibility and hand-holding falls onto MC's. Be prepared to work long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the admin tasks out of the MC position so they can grow into more intelligent buyers

I have been working at ShopNBC

    Pros

Great work/ life balance and everyone is very friendly and family oriented. They allow a lot of flexibility in your schedule once you prove you are responsible and can get your work completed with quality and efficiency.

    Cons

Smaller company, not a whole lot of opportunity to train in cross-functional areas. Most career paths are pre-set and they don't really like it when you say you want to change areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to switch career paths to better suite their career ambitions and to cultivate their skills to make more of a contribution to the company.
