ProsThe Amazon connection was definitely a pro.

ConsI actually enjoyed my job itself and was eager to gain more ecomm experience, but the drama and unkind girls was a distraction. Too many different cliques and gossiping. Also, the freelancers are looked down on simply because of their title. Very high turnover rate, you're constantly seeing new people.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe "cool girls" make the workplace uncomfortable for everyone else and something should be done about it. Stop the treatment of the freelancers.

ProsYou get to see what's coming in before it arrives, and what's going up on the site before it launches. Kind of cool to get a "behind the scenes" look at what goes on there, and if you get a discount that's even better. They offer snacks and coffee as well. (I'm trying here.) Great place to get "e-commerce" experience put on your resume.

ConsI was so excited to start working here, and it couldn't have turned out more disappointing... There is no accountability because there are no leaders, and there are so many freelancers that it is hard to form a team within the designated teams. This results in a high turnover. Despite this, somehow the business is doing very well, but if the internal structure of this company could improve, the sky would be the limit. The cattiness and cliques of these girls rivals that of the movie 'Mean Girls'. The divide between the freelancers and the permanent employees is so thick you could cut it with a knife. If you're a freelancer expecting a permanent position here- don't waste your time. Go elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement? There's management here??

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsLots of work to be done since they are so behind on everything, you won't have the time to be bored.
Decent pay and benefits for full time employees, which won't last, so it's almost fleeting to mention it as a pro.

ConsMore than half of the staff is temps, which are always revolving, so there is no team dynamic. Management absolutely has zero clue to what is actually going on. The amount of work that needs to be done is overwhelming and more than one person can handle. Training is absolutely minimal at best, and you will be left on your own to fail. Only brown-nosers are promoted or revered. Employees are cut throat and only look out for themselves. No team players. Unless you eat, sleep and breathe Shopbop, you won't last.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit pretending to be so hip and cool and actually do some research into what is going on at your company. I haven't seen a more inept group of people in my life. Quit acting like children and chastising people if they don't drink your orange kool-aid.

Current Employee – been working at Shopbop

Prosthe compensation and benefits were decent

Consconstantly being micromanaged, with any mistakes being the focus of management attention and successes being overshadowed by the slightest mistake so there was never a sense of security or feeling of being part of a team. Too often the work was underestimated and over-promised by the development management wwith the expectations that the developer will work the long hours to try to meet unrealistic expectations, only to be chastised if there were issues in something that was forced and rushed from the get go. Very little time collaborating, learning from eachother, or sharing information among the group.

Advice to Senior Managementmore time allowing developers to plan solutions from end to end as opposed to expecting the first step for the developer to involve coding often unclear or ambiguous requirements. Also, cultivation of a more positive environment through focusing on the positives rather than spening all the time picking apart subjectively negative things.
